Pop-ups, spelling, grammar and tolerance

Would anyone care to propose a resolution that censures countries using the UN forum to criticise others' spelling and grammar? Not everyone has English as their first language.

That wouldn't be very consistent.

The UN has already taken the almost exact opposite decision, in banning badly-worded and misspelt resolutions. We would have to repeal that resolution at the same time.

However, I'm sure people want to improve their English if it's not their first language, and would welcome some criticism, so this proposal is unworkable.

P.S. I no longer criticise the anti-pop-up resolution for being misspelt, but I still don't support it (for the reasons you outlined)

It is not merely the misspellings and grammar of the current proposal that is so offensive, but the minimal thought that has been put into such a topic. "Come on you know what i mean." is no way to open a topic that is to be voted on in the United Nations. We all realize that there are those who are less than comfortable with English, but for a serious issue, even those who are unfamiliar with the language ought to put in enough effort to make the subject worth the paper it's written on. The current proposal shows no such effort and appears quite hastily pushed forward. Standards must be enforced or we will be inundated with poor quality statesmanship.

The problem with English though is that if you spell a word incorrectly it gives you a totally different meaning such in the resolution he uses the word "band" instead of the word "banned" which implies he wants to make popups musical.
Surely it is easy to spell correctly if you just copy the proposal into a word processor?

I think grammar should be enforced, and should be correct, it is the UN...
But for English being the only language, I believe in diversity...The problem with that is most of us speak english and only english, that's why the new translators the mods are choosing is a great idea.

I do not want to turn the "bane of of existence" into a band, especially*one called the Internet Advertising Pop-ups. Is there a lack of bad bands with crummy names in this world :?: And if there was, what is preventing the Internet Advertising Pop-ups from forming a band on their own :?:
