I was thinking of proposing something like this. Would you support it? What category/strength should it be?
There is a deplorable situation in many of the world’s nations: higher education is inexorably linked to war. Students must join the ROTC to afford education, or are drafted and can't be educated at all. War and education are better left separate. This proposal would ensure university access to the best and brightest of your country, through merit scholarships, state assignment, draft exemption, or whatever else is appropriate within the framework of your nation.
This proposal is not a comment on war in general – sensible nations can disagree over the necessity of war. This proposal merely addresses the fact that many of the world’s brightest young minds are being forced to put themselves in the line of fire to advance their education. This is both immoral, and inefficient.
All countries will benefit from this proposal passing. Won’t your greatest assets - intellectuals – be better used working to improve your nation, not dieing on the front-line? Even nations geared entirely towards the military, with compulsory military service for all, would be better served by abolishing that policy and letting at least a few students design weapons, instead of use them.
I urge you to consider what would be best for your youth, for your nation, and your world.
