Making Sure Crime Pays !
A resolution to reduce income inequality and increase basic welfare.

Category: Social Justice Strength: Significant Proposed by: TexacoFlag
Description: Texacoflag proposes that all the nations criminals be put to work! Enough of this lounging around on tax payer money. It is high time we started circulating the enormous work force at our finger tips! We can use the criminals for everything from road work to clearing those pesky mines that were outlawed just a few weeks ago! The uses are endless and low costing! In an effort to make sure all nations benefit from this program we further propose that the criminal work force be alternated to do work in different countries. This would allow countries with large criminal populations to help the poorer nations by bringing their work force to aid!

Approvals: 15 (Dovaan, The Nanite Union, The Discordia, Rhhodgen, Jacordia, Sisyphean Fate, Jontes, St Hades, DragonStryke, The Cognoscenti, Xaqon, Somoteitbe, Nocra, Reagani, Soltak)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 121 more approvals)

Read the sub-head, TexacoFlag:
A resolution to reduce income inequality and increase basic welfare.
Your proposal, as written, will take money out of my economy to pay for prison labor. There is nothing in here about making crime pay. It's simple wealth redistribution, and my low-crime country will end up paying more that its fair share.

Prison labor seems like a fine free labor pool, but the reality is that it isn't. Putting prisoners out into the working world require guards, monitoring, transport, and other expenses beyond the basics of keeping them in prison. Then after that, we have to pay to feed and house them as always. Not much of a bargain from where I'm sitting.

I'm also assuming that your nation has laws against slavery, though TexacoFlag being an Authoritarian Democracy with pretty much no civil rights, that's probably going to pass on the next so-called ballot. If you use your prisoners as free labor, isn't that effectively legalizing slavery? What offenses would put you in a TexacoFlag prison, hmmm? Spitting on the sidewalk? Breaking wind in public? Once the laws are on the books, it starts to look mighty desirable to enlarge that free labor pool, and there is an endless supply of potential criminals.

Ehhh, why am I bothering. It's going to expire unratified tomorrow.

Why use skilled thieves for mine clearing? All that talent goes to waste.

Thieves, are much better when unleashed upon your enemies, with a commision of course, think privateers but not just on the seas
