Feel Good Bill- Increased Access to Medicine Bill Questions.

24-12-2003, 17:30
What does the current ' Increased Access to Medicine' bill actually accomplish?
It seems like it is simply stating, "We like medicine for sick people." and of course everybody will vote for it.

But what does it actually do?
To say that the method of increasing access is up to each country is horribly vague and potentially dangerous. Governments could subsidize strictly for a profit. Also how do you determine who is complying with the bill? What are the criteria? The amount of money a nation puts into it or the status of their health care system?
All but the last paragraph of the bill essentially say nothing and the final one does nothing but say 'do what you want'.
Why are bills like this getting through that have little or no impact, as far as I can see, on the world that we live in?
If I'm missing the point completely, somebody fill me in.
Thanks for your time.

I agree! This resolution, though noble in purpose, accomplishes no more than would asking a nation to help healthcare. The individual governments should not be left in control of how to help healthcare, because they can simply choose to do nothing.

No harm in this resolution though. It's weak, but Cowes will vote for it if it encourages healthcare.

Socialized medicine has never worked towards the benefit of an efficient and accurate health care system. This will be a very large governmental cost that not all nations will want to participate in such a money sucking proposal. In addition, this will only create a shortage of medicine to more developed nations because there will surely be a cap on the price of the medication and the drug companies will only be able to produce so much at that price level and rest assured, we will end up with a shortage of medicine all at the expense of this bill. There are other ways to handle this issue, this is not one of them.

I agree with all of the above statements, and most urgently wish for all politically minded nations to vote, and ask their delegates to vote, against this bill which promises so much on so few concrete statements.

This bill is meaningless. It does nothing to aid prevention or cure-research, it just says people should have access to treatment.

If this bill will help your country, then might I reccomend you pave your roads and stop disposing of sewage in your front lawns? Perhaps even implement some sort of irrigation and running-water systems?

Those fetid swamps are not good sources of waste-disposal, drinking water or all-purpose gruel; let alone all three at once.

It is not the place of Meyoria to hand out money or resources to lesser ntions simply because bleading heart liberals feel its in the worlds best interest to bleed my nation of resources that would be better used to aide our own people

Not to sound like I don't feel bad about the ill, but people need to die. The world is overpopulated as it is, let go of the sick. What is the advantage of keeping around someone who cannot work, or even move? Someone answer that question. Where's the advantage? Too bad you'll miss them, get over it.

I agree the world is overcrowded but try to put yourself in their position or their familys. Death is a horrible thing. For anyone.

Death is a natural thing. For everyone. Get used to it, because you won't legislate it away.

I am shocked and appalled at the heartlessness displayed by these fellow delegates. Are you saying that if your own sister was sick in bed and could not receive treatment, that you wouldn't mind and just let her die? I voted FOR this resolution, as I believe everyone, no matter how small or "meaningless" they are, should have access to medicine and treatment.

Hey, hey, this proposal isn't so bad. Why not? Because it forces other nations to subsidize my healthcare while I retain control of it. I'm not one to turn down free money, especially when it comes with no strings attached.

This help would go not just go to people within their respective home countries, but would extend to all countries within the United Nations.

Well, you might end up paying too. I'm for it though.

There are far better ways to deal with overpopulation. We are due for another world war. I'd rather die fighting for my ideals than from an illness that could be cured but people are too cheap to treat.

And someone seems to forget that the most important thing is to PREVENT illness by education and inoculating, and NOT to give the people drugs just to make sure they will have some more time to suffer before they eventually dies...

We should be making a resolution that will start a world war.

Exactly. This bill seems too vague, and it accomplishes nothing. At least it does not directly harm any nation; nethertheless Rethelanium does not support this resolution.
