Capital Punishment Propositon

Youngtung
21-12-2003, 03:32
The Empire of Youngtung is drafting a proposition to the United Nations to get the Death Penalty (Capital Punishment) applicated in all regions. The Empire feels that the Death Penalty has more pros than cons. For example, for Death Row inmates, the countries don't have to pay for the rest of their lives in jail. The average in Youngtung for an inmate who spends life in prision is approx. 256,674,00 Things (approx. 1.5 mil. US). The Empire would like to have some more nations give their opinions on this issue before it goes to the UN.

Once again, this would clearly be a resolution that is inappropriately intrusive into the internal affairs of nations. A resolution recognising the death penalty as one legitimate form of punishment for criminals would be appropriate (although the USSZ would most emphatically speak and vote against it), but forcing all nations to accept a form of punishment that many consider morally questionable, and ineffective, is an abuse of UN power.

I am in absolute agreement with Youngtung on this one. Criminals need a disinsentive to commiting crimes. Nothing instigates proper behavior like a public execution.

If this seems to be on the verge of passing we will definitely resign from the UN.

We cannot live in harmony with state-supported killers.

The Republic of Dovaan will strongly support a resolution like this. Further justification can be found in the fact that international crimes are on the rise and the best way to control this is to institute the death penalty in all nations.

The death penalty saves money and prison space. Simple as that. Want to be compassionate? Put the killers back on the street.

While I appreciate your concern for the welfare of my Confederacy's economy, we feel that we can never be sure that a man convicted of a crime is the one and the same man who committed that crime. Vengeance upon the guilty does not justify even the occasional death of an innocent.

Compassion is not the reason. There is no place for compassion toward the wolves among the flock. They need to be taken away from those they would harm, and be disposed of. However, since no method of investigation, no forensic tool, no well-mixed jury, can ever keep innocent people suspected of crimes from being convicted, it is better to imprison - a man can be set free, but he cannot be resurrected.

It is clear that there is no consensus on this issue. It is not clear why this is an issue that the United Nations should regulate. Given those two reasons, I don't think it's likely that any resolution like this would be passed.

Santin reserves the application of the death penalty for very extreme cases, but respects the right of all nations to self-determination on this issue so long as its use does not become excessive.

Beauracracy, which is in place to help prevent innocents from being executed, costs a lot more in capitol cases than keeping a prisoner for 70 years (a young man getting life in prison). To ban the death penalty of financial grounds is A) immoral and shouldn't be considered, and B) ends up costing less if the death penalty is abolished.

The Empire would like to thank all the supporters of this proposition and would like to inform you that we will be hopefully taking this to the UN sometime soon. Thanks for your support.

As UN delagate, I will sure NOT to endorse to a HORRIBLE resolution, and if somehow it gets put to the vote, rest assured I will be voting against it, for reasons stated above, and more.

The death penalty saves money and prison space.

Executing all criminals - those found guilty as well as those whose trials have not yet concluded - would do the same thing, but even more efficiently.

(In fact, in the US capital punishment is more costly per inmate than life imprisonment.)

ps - Since most crimes are committed by men under the age of 35, might I suggest that the UN order the culling of all non-university-educated males from between the ages of 12 and 35.

Such a cull will take care not only of the crime problem but also of:

pollution
war

Catholic Europe supports this proposal believing that the death penalty is an effective punishment against the most heinous of crimes.

We banned the death penalty a long time ago and we have no crime.

I will fully back youngtung if it were to submit this proposal to the United Nations. International crime is on the rise and nations pay millions every year looking after prisoners. This proposal will spresd fear amongst criminals and put them of there crimes. Yountung will definetly have The Republic of Santwa's support.

Once again, the Empire of Youngtung would like to thank all who supported this propostion and we will be submitting this to the UN soon. A note to all regional directors, let this pass to the entire UN so that this very imporntant topic can be brough out to the public. Thanks again.

Most Thanks!

Due to the advances in forensic detections related to crimes. The Armed Republc Of Icel is confident that any passing of the Death Penalty(under the Taking out the Trash Act 2003) against it's citizens is totally justified. However we respect the need for countries to make there own decisions and are against compulsory introductrions . Lord Protector Armed republic of Icel.
