The Right to Comfortably Live

R34
18-12-2003, 04:02
WHEREAS

(1) Poverty levels in many nations are below acceptable levels,
(2) Roughly 10 trillion people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight, or having had a very illnourishing meal,
(3) Many of these 10 trillion will be going to bed on the streets,
(4) Many of these 10 trillion do not have access to good healthcare or education,

LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT

(1) Governments ensure that their citizens have at least two nourishing meals a day, and that the UN has the right to exact a small tax from all member nations to give poverty relief to nations,
(2) Governments ensure that water supplies are clean,
(3) Governments take agressive steps to cut down on the number of homeless people; ie give them a job in the government, or house them in a homeless shelter with adequate sanitary facilites,
(4) Governments ensure that all in their nation have access to free basic healthcare and basic education, as many do not have the money to pay for these,
(5) Governments attempt to, in general, improve the quality of life in their countries.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE OF YOUR NATION, AND THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, SUPPORT THIS PROPOSAL.

I think it's pretty self explanatory. Please support.

Note, I submitted about 15 minutes ago, hasn't showed up in the UN yet...

Nice proposal, but I'll vote against it if it comes up. Too much of a welfare slant to it. My preferred method will be to teach the citizen to fish, so that he would eat for a lifetime, instead of giving him fish, so that he would only eat for a day.

Whatever!

If they're ugly, I say let 'em starve!

Passing a resolution won't bring in the crops after a year or two of drought. Put your money where your mouth is: offer to subsidize any nation-state who hasn't the resources to comply with this resolution. Then Frisbeeteria might be interested in supporting it.
