Well, I'm sure you would not deem it fit (or proper) to expect all delegates to learn all languages. One is completely free to speak one's own language. That, presumably, is what the translators are there for.

Well, seeing as you said "the" English cultural imperialism, I'm assuming you're talking about this game, and I'm also assuming you're talking about the predominance of the English language, as there is no English cultural imperialism in the main game (trust me, I'm English, I know it when I see it).

NS is written by an American. It runs on American servers. It's played predominantly (as far as I can tell) by Americans.

Americans speak American English. So most of the posts are in English. I'm not aware there's anything to stop you posting in any language you want, just be aware that anyone who doesn't speak your language won't know what you're on about.

Now, if you want to set up a server in your own country running a version of NS in your language... well, try suggesting it to the mods. I suspect it'd be a lot of work though.

Written by an Australian actually, and many English speaking players are from there as well as Britain, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.''So you don't have to be pro-American to support use of English in the game.

It must be an inconvenience for many. I know Russians, Norse, Belgians and Dutch here who have difficulty sometime. There does not however appear to be a practical alternative right now. Maybe NS 2 will have its own translator.

My apologies - for some reason I'd got the idea the guy who wrote the book was American. I was basing usage on American references and American English spelling - it's nice to know it's more of a global game than I thought!

So you don't have to be pro-American to support use of English in the game.

No, I wasn't trying to suggest that - it was reasoning based on an incorrect assumption, but the premise still holds in that he's a native English speaker.

That'd be the best of both worlds - though I daresay there would people interested in single-language 'franchises', if that makes sense.

If everyone spoke the same language, the world would be a much better place.

Well, the world does need a 'lingua franca', and whether you like it or not, nowadays that's English. There's no use in going on about it, just don't forget your own language, without getting too fanatic about it.
