Please support the gas caps proposal that I submitted. It will make getting gas easier for every one in the end. Thank you.

Gas Caps Resloution

Category: Free Trade; A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.
Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Ladovy Hokej

Description: As you know, in some cars, the gas cap is on the left, and in others, it is on the right.
This makes getting gas confusing when you are driving a new car or a car you don't usually drive.
Therefore, I propose that the gas cap be on the driver's side of all new passenger cars produced in member nations after the passage of this resolution.

Approvals: 4 (The Cognoscenti, Lamoni, Mewgenflop, Scaraba)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 130 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Fri Dec 19 2003

have you by any chance noticed that the driver's side is not the same side in all nations?

this might not be of concern other then to international drivers

it is of no personal concern to our own nation as we have neither gas stations or highways and consume no fossle fuels not derived from biomass and these only in small scale methane fueled home back up gensets

While I don't agree with the proposal, I do think the definition of gas cap placement is probably acceptable. If the driver's side changes, the gas cap would move with it. I think that was the intent, anyway.

Factories in nations like Japan already have to place steering wheels on both sides, which obviously requires some sort of retooling at the factory. I don't know enough of the mechanics involved to even make a guess as to the retooling that might be required to switch the sides of the gas caps. If the cost of retooling is significant, passing this resolution could harm the automobile industry.

Even if the effects would hardly be noticeable after a few years, I don't see cause for the United Nations to pass this. It's micromanagement at its finest.

Are you people mad?? Obviously the gas cap should be on the OPPOSITE side of the driver. The car must be driven into the gas station so that the gas cap lines up right next to the pump. If the gas cap were on the driver's side, he/she could not open the door fully, or (in a full-serve gas station) it would be difficult for the attendant to communicate with the driver.

Regardless, Londana will not be proposing any such resolution, as cars are outlawed in our nation. We want to discourage the use of these polluting vehicles, and feel that any resolution mentioning cars will result in our populace realizing what they are being deprived of.
