You obviously don't understand either. They aren't opposites at all.
While I'm not sure a communist democracy has ever happened, I see no reason why it's totally impossible. And semi-socialist democracies do exist - Scandinavian Liberal Paradises.
The two terms are really orthgonal. To put it very simply, 'communist' means low economic freedom (despite the association with totalitarianism) and 'democracy' means high political freedom.
But if you mean would I rather it be a communist dictatorship or democratic and capitalist, I would say democratic and capitalist.
To put it very simply, 'communist' means low economic freedom (despite the association with totalitarianism) and 'democracy' means high political freedom.
While I realize you were trying to simplify things for the confused person who proposed this poll, those definitions are misleading and inaccurate.
Low economic freedom can be associated with the Right just as much as the Left. For example, fascist governments are far right-wing governments whose economies are heavily regulated and state-controlled.
Anyone who even answers this poll shows nothing except their sheer ignorance.
Neither, I prefer a Constitutional Monarchy. :D
A form of socialist democracy seems to work quite well in Enodia. Our politics are characterised by a strong participatory tradition on the part of the populace (democracy) as well as a focus on the provision of welfare by the state (socialism, or for the uncharitable, communism).
AHEM, This is NOT a U.N. related topic, and as such should not be here, this is a general forum topic and as such should not be here, what the hell is wrong with people, this forum is here to allow people to discuss issues involving proposals for the U.N. and its actions, activities, not for polling and discussing various political systems, can any of you even READ?
(Redundant question I know, but really, what is with this influx of non U.N. crap?)
Can anybody explain why this keeps happpening? Its just I've got a topic on a new proposal I am plannig three pages back, yet this stuff is parked up here, and is nothing to do with the U.N.
I do agree that this is a valid topic, as any sensible discussion on the pro's, con's and basis, explanation or theories on political systems are, but why here? It confuffles my!
A very not at all happy Rep of Komokom.
Given that the UN has the power (ever so slightly and by degrees) to change the government type of a member nation, the topic fits slightly better here than it does anywhere much else.
