Whoever votes to replace Xmas with Hippo Appreciation Day...

13-12-2003, 03:03
Is a big dumb jerk.

First Thursday after Winter Solstice? Could that be Dec. 25, this year? Hello, people?

Hippos are cool. I like hippos. His Lordship Ezekiel Pyros Treason likes hippos. I think hippos are the best. Who cares about Christmas when you can have hippos? :D

Jesus loves all the little creatures (and the big ones too) and he told me personally that he has no problem sharing his birthday with hippos. Hippos are big, but they don't bring you presents or egg nog.

They will poop on your lawn for free, however.

I vote NO TO HIPPO DAY! HIPPOS ARE FAT UGLY BEASTS!

How'd the Hippo DAy proposal get this far, anyway? Is it "be insane" week?
13-12-2003, 21:51
the u.n. shouldn't waste time with such stupid proposals as this hippo day thing. lets vote no and move on.

You people are all mad. Can you not see the important issue here, of hippo related discrimination? Six Bazillion Kittens, please stop trying to obscure the UN with 'humour' and 'wit,' and vote YES for the hippos.

1. Get a sense of humor.

2. Cash the sense of humor in for somethign funnier.

3. re-read the proposal and see this is not about hippos so much as it is about enviromental awareness.

4. Who cares about environemntal awareness?

5. A vote agaisnt this is a vote against the ability to have humor as a part of a game.

6. Be like Michael J, and lighten up.

7. Can't we all get along.

8. If you like Hippos vote for this.

9. If you hate Hippos, vote for this. Beacause it is only through the preservation of hippos that you can kill so many hippos.

10. There is no number 10.

1. Done.

2. Done, also.

3. To say that is like saying that Slavery was about spreading Christianity and moderniaztion. It is very much about hippos, it is based on the previous hippo proposal which was entirely about hippos, and deals by and large(pun) with hippos, not environmental awareness. It can be as humorous as it wants, but it should still remain focused on the subject at hand. The proposal tries to hard to be funny.

4. I do (more IC, but also OOC), but I still vote against it.

5. I don't see it that way at all. Many of the issues are quite humorously(sp?) written and yet remain focused on the subject at hand. This, while containing some humour, is focused almost entirely on hippos. If it was meant to be an environmental proposal, then it should have been written as such.

6.

7. Of course we can, but we don't have to agree ;)

8&9. What if you're neutral on the subject?

10. So there isn't. I guess I'll put this here then: As I see it, a vote for this issue is a vote for establishing a precident I would prefer not to see. "Well, if this hippo thing was ok, why not my proposal as well?" You can see this happening in other UN threads even now (see Ninja Awarness Day in particular).

Catholic Europeans would be most displeased and very angry if Christmas day was replaced by 'hippo appreciation day'.

Which is partly the reason why I voted against the current resolution. I'm more concerned with more serious issues, even if the whole thing is roleplayed. I don't think issues like these should be even brought up as the game loses any and all authenticity.

The Radioactive Wasteland of Inebriatedonkies is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its compulsory vegetarianism....The average income tax rate is 100%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Book Publishing...anti-environmentalist protesters are gunned down without mercy...Inebriatedonkies's national animal is the Tortoise, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the donkey...
What were you saying about authenticity?

Hippos are a fragile, graceful creatures and we must honor them! Who cares if it replaces Christmas? There is NO CHRISTMAS anyway. Jesus is false, there is only Mystra, the Dark Lady. She is the true Goddess.

It's not about replacing Christmas. There's still going to be a Christmas and most years, Hippo Awareness Day isn't the same day as Christmas. I'm sure that your country can have it's official observation of Hippo Awareness Day on a different day if it conflicts with Christmas just like in the United States holidays like Martin Luther King Day and Memorial Day are always observed on a Monday no matter when they actually fall.

And I can't believe I actually have to explain these things.

Decide any of your nation's issues lately? ALSO tough.

I can't believe that 2,000 years after a hippo was nailed to a cross that we are still having this debate.

As to being Neutral, I would suggest you vote for the propsal so that the neutrality of your voice will ring loudly.

As to 10, how long you been in the UN? How many of these type proposals you seen passed this far?

In fact, the spiral effect of voting on this is about nil. It is hard to make a joke, yet keep it within the strict guidlines of the UN order.

Xmas is now a totally secular holiday. Religious people can always celebrate on their own time. We just exchange one secular holiday for another here.

You are all invited to our place to trim the hippo with red and green garlands, lots of them.

This Hppo Awareness Day bill is painfully stupid and pointless and makes me want to cry.

But in all fairness, Jesus wasn't born on Christmas. His birthday was celebrated on December 25th because it was the same day as some Pagan holiday so it was easy for the Christians to get away with having a blasphemous celebration that would otherwise have had them jailed. I doubt he'd mind sharing this day with Hippos once every six years since it's not really his birthday.

But more importantly, he shouldn't have to because this bill is stupid. You can say that a vote against this is a vote against humour in a game, but I look at it more like a vote for this resolution is a vote against capitalism. My industry will not be punished for the same of the environment.

Baby Jesus loves Hippos, and the Hippos love Baby Jesus. Check your nativity scene. There's a Hippo. If there isn't, take it back to the store and demand your money back.

Also there's a hedgehog, break dancing with an otter.
