At the end of every week, all the moderators should get togethher and give out an award for the worst proposal. The award would have a snazzy name, such as The Hippo, and the winner or winners would be annouced in the Nationstates news page every Sunday.

I don't think there's anything childish about the Hippo proposal. It's ridiculous, but so are Monty Python. So, the only thing that worries me about it is that it's got flaggers in that will likely raise taxes. Funny it may be, but expensive we like not. Call us Scroogey if you will.

THAT is exactly what is wrong with this proposal!

First the 'Alternate Fuels' then the 'Union' resolutions damaged many economies, now yet another anti-industry proposal comes up. If you read carefully what this proposal actually is advocating, it is NOT about hippos and tv telethons! What it proposes is a lessening of the economic standards of nations:

"A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment,
at the expense of industry."

Industry Affected: All Businesses

Notice:

so ALL businesses, including basket weaving, industries that DO NOT damage the environment will suffer....all for a proposal that masks itself as a humerous "hippo" proposal. This proposal is far more insideous than it first looks, if people actually read what it will affect: not hippos, but a ruined economy.

This resolution does nothing but hurt every UN nation's economy for the sake of an annoying to read proposal. If it had been written more seriously, and well, better, i would have urged my endorsees to vote for it, but our regional vote stands at against, because those who voted so far all agree its stupid.

What test was that? On the WAIS-III UK I scored a verbal IQ of 152. Remembering that the maximum score is 155, and the test can't be used to accurately measure scores more than three S.D.s above the mean, that's quite possibly inaccurate. And they don't use the classification 'genius' anymore, the highest category is 'very superior'. Besides, the whole genius-IQ debate is largely meaningless, because genius isn't a scientifically accurate term.

This will cause a huge influx from 12 year old who signed up yesterday flooding the UN with unessesary and pointless proposals. This is without a doubt the stupidest thing ive heard since the hippo thing. The UN is meant to be mildly serious, not a competition about who can be the biggest idiot.

Perhaps a bit more on topic, What sort of qualifications are we using to judge the "Hippo" award? Are we looking for misspelled bills, are we looking for bills with severe logical disconnect(bills that don't match or contradict their classification), or are we just going to pick the bill that best says "The person who wrote this is, at the moment, a certifiable moron who needs to remember to take things in moderation, especially stupidity."

Most attempts to be funny are not funny, so maybe it should be the most unintentionally funny. The one where the misspelling is not only hilarious, but changes the meaning of the proposal. Like the ones where people demand their "sufferage" and such.

IQ doesn't measure intelligence. The main use of IQ tests is to point out exceptionality - i.e. unusually high/low scorers, or statistical discrepancies between subscales on a test. It isn't actually measuring intelligence.

Now, what is this mythical 'second system'? It wasn't even mentioned while I was studying intelligence testing in psychology, and that's odd - we took quite a comprehensive look at aptitude testing. Or is there some deficit in my course/memory? If so, please name these two systems.

She was obviously just kidding with those scores. However, I should point out that 105 isn't really bright - it's only 5 points above the normed average, and isn't really a significant difference. (It still counts in the 'average' range on the WAIS-III).

Actually, 85% of all people who spout off their IQs at any given moment are either a) much dumber than they claim to be, or b) very insecure due to their complete lack of common sense and people skills. Tell me, did you take your IQ test online?

The hippo thing is a front. It has nothing to do with hippos. It should not have made it this far. At least some of the people on THIS thread are smart enough to see what is *really* going on. The UN is not a country. It's a political body designed to HELP NATIONS GET ALONG, not force them to start pro-environment campaigns.

In terms of odd proposals doing the rounds now, one you might appreciate is "Gas Caps Resolution". I'll provide the text for those who couldn't be bothered tracking it down:


As you know, in some cars, the gas cap is on the left, and in others, it is on the right.
This makes getting gas confusing when you are driving a new car or a car you don't usually drive.
Therefore, I propose that the gas cap be on the driver's side of all new passenger cars produced in member nations after the passage of this resolution.


"Noble sentiments", I thought at first. Then it dawned on me that the resolution wouldn't change much, as the reference point is the driver's side - so a people used to left-hand drive would still have to acclimatise to right-hand drive if they went overseas.

There are always the ones that simply say "Vote for this because I said so" or something that has the same effect.

Then there are proposals that seem to be written just to offend certain people. Their writers must know that those proposals will be instantly deleted and that there will be consequences, but they continue to write them anyway. Redicule is the best way to deal with such proposals.

True, but Andinostan's internal politics are consumed with those of the UN. The opposition party simultaneoulsy had a bill before our Congress stating that Hippos were, in fact, quite small. Though this measure similarly failed, we're having to adopt a more moderate stance on hippo size, though various portions of their oral anatomy are still, undoubtably, quite large. I wasn't planning on making this a proposal, because it would be hypocritical for me to post a game mechanics issue. The whole issue was meant as a joke. I posted it so that there would be a place to list really bad proposals, and hopefully explain the reasons why these proposals were listed so that they won't pass.

Looking back through the posts, I notice that other topics have entered this disscussion.

As for Industrial Rights, it truly deserves a Hippo. In my opinion seatbelts are no reason to compain, as they don't cost very much.

I am not what the Hippo proposal meant, but seing that it didn't pass, I wouldn't worry too much.

I hope that this clarifies things.

I think that there are no stupid proposals or dumbiest or childish or what ever.

Because all nations have their own thoughts, appreciations etc. Its impossible to find out what is "really" dumb proposation.

But majority decides is proposation going to be accepted or not. The point is that the most reasonabled proposations will be asked, which they see important and others not. But we should not criticize or judge and labes some proposations as "stupid", "childhish" etc. because them are not those in theirs eyes.
