I'm sure it's a very noble idea, but who works harder, a coal-miner or a rocket scientist? How would you decide relative pay on that scale?

True, it still wouldn't be a fair wage no matter what...

How do you measure equality?

Who decides what is "equal work"? If it is any one other than the employer then such a proposal would be an enfringement upon the employer's rights. We must all remember that businesses do not exist to provide "the people" with a means of earning a living. Businesses are not "Social Programs". Businesses exist as a means for their owners, either individuals or stock holders, to earn a profit from their investment of capital , be it funds or work. It is but a biproduct of Business that it has a societal impact, and yes most business owners want that to be a "positive" societal impact" but not at the expence of the Business its self.

Who would decide what constitutes "equal work"?

A sweatshop worker in Indonesia probably works just as hard, if not harder, than an American factory worker and both do manual labor, but the American factory worker is much more productive due to greater efficiency, so shouldn't he recieve much more pay?
