Movement against the next resolution!!!

11-12-2003, 23:24
It seems that the next resolution on the agenda is that sorry piece of legislation known as "HIPPOS ARE REALLY QUITE LARGE." It would be a sad day in the NationStates UN if that complete piece of junk passes. It makes a mockery of the whole website! I thought we might as well start an early effort to shoot it down, so we can get people voting against it right when in comes up for vote.

Cheers to that.

Although -- I do wish we were at a site where if something like that came through, people would cheerfully go through it and do the exercises of pointing out where it's not clear, what's constructive or destructive about it, how it fits or doesn't fit into the mandate, etc. -- but I don't think people here are quite at that point with being able to see that this is a game. Perhaps if we tried harder to separate out the game and IRL effects -- or perhaps if we called each other more often on being OOC without indication -- I don't know --

How do i approve a proposal? :?

You need to be a Region Delegate to approve one before it goes to official voting. If passed by the regionals, it goes into general, all you do is go to the UN and at the bottom of the proposal it gives you the option to vote.

I haven't any idea what you're talking about, this is one of the finest pieces of legislation I have ever seen.

I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic, but there certainly was some good legislation in there. The problem is it was buried under a whole lot of rubbish about recognizing hippos as the second largest animal as opposed to the third.

Of course its rubbish! That's why it's funny

And I do agree, hippos are not the second largest land animal. I can think of many that are larger. Elephants for one. Giraffes for another (though that might be pushing it on the weight issue.) Hmmm... what else?

Would a beached whale be considered a land animal? I'm curious, because every time I've seen a hippopotamus at the zoo it's been in the water, never on land. If beached whales are "land" animals, then hippos would be further down on the list.

I also think that a proposal of this sort gaining so many approvals is ludicrous. Surely there must be some better issues for people to occupy themselves with. Though this isn't as stupid as the proposal for duck suffrage.
