The UN has far too much power than the real UN. Stop being tree-hugging militants and recognise that the UN can only condemn acts, not enforce them!

What gets me is this:--
You go into this game knowing the rules as they concern the UN, and then complain because you don't get your way.
The UN is fine as is.

I treat the UN as it is: a Level Four Biohazard. I keep it locked in it's little world and go in in a HAZMAT suit once in a while to see the poor saps. Then I go back to the rest of the world. If anyone catches UNitis in my region, they're quarantined. The world must be kept pure of the UN disease.
In my region, nations are encouraged not to join the UN because we are a sovreign Imperium and does not need to have other people's views imposed on us. Though we still have a somewhat strong UN membership ratio.

Actually, the UN is a lot less powerful here than in RL. Just take the example that the UN has absolutely no way of punishing rule breakers here - if you have slavery in your country, and you are in the UN, for instance, the UN can do nothing about it. It can only respond if you make it public, and another country takes it upon themselves to act. Because there is no-one playing the UN Councils, as opposed to playing nation leaders, there is no way the UN can do anything except by delegating the task. The UN needs more power if anything.

No, the UN in this game is designed to model the real UN and get rid of arguments, and condem certain behavior. In NO way is it supposed to be a fascist organization that tells people to do this, do that.

If I'm not mistaken each resolution passed by the UN carries some sort of statistical effect with it, affecting either Political Freedoms, Economy, or Civil Rights. So this means that yes, every member nation is affected by this nasty scourge. The UN must stop being a fascist organization, and relenquish its power set by "yes-men" who just see a proposal that seems, to their propaganda-influenced mind, something that should be voted for.
Delegates, political correctness isn't always the right choice. Most of you have been raised from birth hearing don't say that word. Don't stare at him. Don't make jokes about that. Sometimes, stepping outside the box is just FINE. On the current bill, for example, you say, "Oh no. Barbaric punishment. Well that's no good." and vote yes for the bill. You know what? That means any spy you catch in your nation can just go with a pat on the ass. He has no fear of being tortured. Dammit, people. I can't make this any more clearer to you.
The Kingdom of Skullzz has resigned from the UN due to several major conflicts of interest. Should the UN be put under control and sovereignty recognized, the Kingdom may return to the international organization.

Fellow delegates who agree with me on this matter. I must ask for two endorsements, as I am going to risk my membership and my reputation by listing a proposal to downgrade the UN's power... I fear it will not pass, but every time someone reads it, a new thought will begin.
Well, at least now I know my newly acquired puppet nation can participate on the forum. I need to take Zorakia out of the UN too, but I'm still not in full control of them. Once their ruler hands over full control, I shall remove them from the grasps of the stupid international organization.

I am sure if this bill passes many people will leave. The UN here has turned into an insane fascist machine dedicated to 'moral justice' when it has no idea what effect it will have on other nations.

Exactly. Labor unions nearly destroyed The Kingdom of Skullzz. I went from a very strong economy to imploded, and have managed to fight my way back to Reasonable. Further atrocities against us will NOT be permitted.

]2. Game Mechanics Proposal
We've been down this street previously. Thankfully, they're becoming slightly less prevalent at the moment. It is important to notice, however, that proposals to repeal other resolutions are Game Mechanics Changes. This is because you are effectively asking for the statistics of your nation to be re-set to what they were before the proposal was passed - given that statistics are a part of the Game Mechanics, that's what you want changed. Also, proposals about the UN not being allowed to infringe on "national sovereignty" are Game Mechanics things as well - clearly the UN can infringe on whatever it wants because the option to make such proposals exists.

In real life the U.N. has no power either if a country does something wrong the U.N. just says please stop. How do you think hitler got so far.

The UN in real life proposes guidelines for nations to follow. The UN here enforces its decisions via a compliance ministry in each nation. Nations cannot choose to disregard UN decisions or proposals.
Therefore, Dendrilys, as a puppet state for the sovereign and recently un-UN-ed Forest of Dendrys, would suggest that the first step to stopping the madness would be to pass a resolution requiring that the UN must have at least x% participation in order to pass a resolution (Dendrilys proposes at least 50%); and that there must be at least y% of all UN nations in favour (Dendrys proposes at least 33 1/3%) in order to pass the resolution.

Surely the role of the UN is to keep all nations together, abiding by the same set of rules. By reducing the UN's power we therefore ruin tht principle and reason for the UN. Why would we therefore need a UN?

ooc: To generate discussion and make game play interesting.
bic: Because there is a need for a political body that discusses issues facing member nations and proposes guidelines and resolutions in the best interests of the people. It's like an advocate for human rights, one great big Guardian ad Litem.
But it can't be said that the UN can represent the best interests of the people if less than a third of the member nations are in agreement that the resolution would help people.

Ha Ha, the UN with power? The UN has no power in real life are you kidding me. Its simply an organization where nations get to argue to see who looks the best in international politics. Some parts of the UN have a good impact, like the WHO, but for the most part, the UN can do nothing unless member nations fully cooperate with each other. If you disagree, I urge you to read We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be KIlled With Our Families by Philip Gourevitch. The United Nations is a ridiculus international organization for other reasons as well. You have countries like Lybia heading the Human Rights committees. They make a fool of themselves while trying to look sympathetic to those who wish to use the UN to get away with far worse crimes.

I agree, the UN in real life lacks any real power, all they have from the peace keepers is nothing. The United Nations Peace Keepers are the most ineffective unitss in the world, In bosnia the serbs ignored them, or held them hostage for personal gain. They are too lightly armed and too poorly equipped to handle bossing around other nations. They always call a super power to help them out military wise and then take all the credit of that action. As if their peace-keepers did the dirty work.
The UN was created after WW2
