Burnation to the UN: WTH is wrong with you people?

02-12-2003, 01:30
As the proud founder of the great Republic of Burnatin, I have become horrified and appalled with the recent rash of resolutions that have passed by this Great Council of Conformity.

The content of the majority of recently passed resolutions have simply been already made in-game Issues and you people are trying to other force nations into choosing a set path. Is it that you have no imagination or that you desire to force your will on the other nations that believe in Freedom so much that they think they should be free to decide how they should deal with their toxic waste or whether or not they should allow Social Welfare to cover the jobless?

Well the Republic of Burnation will not idly stand by and allow this to happen! We will protest! First we will bury you with mountains of unwanted statistics and litigation; if this fails we will ignite the mountain of paper into a glorious blaze that will burn your women and leave your children through wandering the charred embers that was once your nation!

Comply! You have been warned.

Respectfully,

The Republic of Burnation

I as the ruler of Sitaro, agree. The UN is a body that we need to harness as a world government, that much is clear. But as a UN member the nation of Sitaro does not want basic decisons taken away from us.

In summary: We believe in the UN, but make sure the individual countries can maintain autonomy.

I, Reginald B. Tactaf, Rikal's leader am of the position that the U.N. does indeed overstep its bounds and we would like to contribute in anyway to the mountain of paperwork and subsequent burning thereof.

The whole point of the UN is to do something. If you don't want to be apart of that then I advise you to leave the UN. If the UN wasn't designed in NationStates to act the way it has then the options to create the offending resolutions would not have existed.

What if we would rather promote productive change than secede?

The U.N as it is right now is simply imposing socialist legislation on all its members, and when it isnt doing that its passing worthless "feel good" resolutions like the last one. Im surprised it took me the better part of a week to see I wasnt getting anything out of it and leave.

Then, as it were, haste is of the essence. We are among the few. Find the UFS.

For those who are against the "socialist" and "feel-good" resolutions of the UN, consider this:
They are put in through a majority vote, and could well represent what a majority of us want in the real world but due to never being able to hold the levers of power, can never have,so we have it here in our virtual world.
What is wrong with that?

Because you may be a woman. If not, you're either a sissy or a weeping pansy. If not you're a Homosexual man and who likes them exept Homosexuals?

Afk-Puz, this is your official warning to cease all flaming activities. Casting aspersions (or nasturtiums) on the sexual orientation of another poster is not an acceptable practice and if repeated will result in your deletion.

Are we all clear now? Very well, carry on with the debate.

I love how everyone's patented response to these valid complaints about the UN is not a well-reasoned defense of their actions, but instead "if you don't like it, you can leave. ©"

As perhaps you were unaware, I would like to take the time to pleasantly inform you that the UN is the only game in town. We would like to interact with people about whether or not a proposal is worthwhile and should pass, but most proposals are shoved through with little thought about whether they will harm many nations, whether the proposal itself is even correct in some of its main assertions (the infamous Alternative Fuel proposal's statement that Co2 destroys ozone jumps to mind), or if it is even grammatically correct (and not in violation therefore of an earlier proposal which passed and became law).

But hey, who cares? "If [we] don't like it, [we] can leave, ©" right?

The NWO conspiracy theory holds that the United Nations (UN) will lead a military coup against the nations of the world to form a socialist or One World Government. UN troops, consisting mostly of foreign armies, will commence a military takeover of other nations.
Under this hypothetical NWO/One World Government, the following events are to take place: 1) private property rights and private gun ownership will be abolished; 2) all national, state and local elections will become meaningless, since they will be controlled by the UN; 3) the Constitution of other nation states will be supplanted by the UN charter; 4) only approved churches and other places of worship will be permitted to operate and will become appendages of the One World Religion, which will be the only legitimate doctrine of religious beliefs and ethical values; 5) home schooling will be outlawed and all school curriculum will need to be approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and 6) nations military bases and other federal facilities will be used as concentration camps by the UN to confine those patriots who defy the NWO.

OOC: Think about it - in order to be a member of NS and specifically the UN, you have to be at least somewhat familiar with the internet, to be able to get here and comfortable enough to navigate the "system". If you look at the people who use the internet for entertainment purposes, I would bet that a sizeable majority of them are young adults and teens. Its a well documented fact that this demographic tends to lean well to the left of center (maybe they haven't yet had the idealism mercilessly crushed out of them by cold cold reality, to be replaced by stony cynicism?) (no, I'm not bitter at all! :P ).

So, is it any wonder that the resolutions that are passed tend to be left-leaning and idealistic? No. Do I agree with a lot of the resolutions? No. Do I live with it as a fact of life in the NS universe? Yes.

This is why I quit the UN.
02-12-2003, 16:22
And quitting serves what purpose? By quitting, a statement is made? A statement of what? By quitting Treenoia assumes the quitter really doesn't want to play, or the quitter has no stomach for thoughtful debate.

This is a role game and if one can't get into the spirit of it, it is their loss. It's actually stimulating, after being away from formal education for over three decades, i find myself going back to read and study the real UN Charter to understand this game more deeply; and that is what this game is all about. This isn't a game of throw the dice, this is meant to massage brains into thinking. This isn't for willy-nilly fantasia ideas. This is about creating and maintaining a viable and contributing nation within a realm chaos, very similar to the real world.
