It is more than apparent that the current UN rules regarding requiring a majority vote to pass a Resolution fall far short of being truly Democratic!!
As the Policy currently works; If a Resolution gets a majority yes votes and the number of "yes" votes is less than a simple majority of the Member Nations it still Passes and then becomes binding upon all Member Nations. !!! :x This is obsurd!!
Why is it that the UN feels it can force all Member Nations to comply with Resolutions passed in such a manner but YET it can not force all Member nations to fulfill their obligations and VOTE on all Resolutions???
These policies need to be changed!!!
All Resolutions should be required to garned a 50% +1(minimum) to Pass!
If the UN feels that there is no way it could get every Resolution to be voted on by every Member Nation then perhaps the introduction of different "member Status" regulations is in order. For instance if a Member Nation fails to vote on at least one out of every four proposed UN Resolutions the Status of that member nation could be reduced to "Observer" for a set period of time. Member Nations with such status would not be eligable to vote and thereby reducing the number of "Voting Members" to a level and composition of Member nations that actually care to vote.
As it is the current policy of "silence is consent" amounts to government of the wolves, by the sheep and for the wolves. :x
