The problem with UN proposals (and their 20+ pages of them)!

25-11-2003, 07:24
Do the people offering proposals even bother to LOOK to see if 'their' idea is already proposed??? No wonder its 20+ pages!! Within the first FIVE pages TWO identical proposals are offered! Between the absolute lunatic proposals ( Vote my leader your master proposal.....I kid you not, take a look  ) Theres 2 indentical proposals asking the same thing, and endorsed by the same people. Take a look:

Universal Currency
A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.

Category: Free Trade Strength: Strong Proposed by: Mother Prussia
Description: This document states that there should be one universal currency, used by all UN members. This currency could be called the Universal Credit, or something along the lines of that.
This is necessary because separate currencies are inefficent and create barriers amongst other nations, dealing with the hassles of conversion, etc. This is completely necessary in order to have a peaceful, efficent, globalised World.

Unified Currency
A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.

Category: Free Trade Strength: Significant Proposed by: Naffiss
Description: It is my belief that once a group of nations reaches a certain size, it becomes difficult to establish and maintain trade routes with other nations whose currency is of a different type and value. It is my opinion that we, therefore, need to institute a form of legal tender that all UN nations adopt. The majority will agree upon a currency, and then the entire UN will espouse this new currency. This will further encourage trading amongst foreign nations. Ergo, our economy will greatly benefit from the passing of this proposal.

Approvals: 9 (Clairebemoo, Zervok, Kevin VDD, Butthole, Ottoman Empire, Goldfish Addicts, Huskatopia, Labor and Science, Duke Leighland I)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 116 more approvals)

That one was a game mechanics thing that was passed before mods were around to delete them. Take no notice of it.

While I appreciate what you're saying, surely you agree that the resolution is in fact a good idea? Obviously you have other concerns than keep you from policing the proposals list for more than mechanics-issue type proposals. However, couldn't someone, or a board of people be given some sort of mod status so that they could delete outlandish proposals from the list? Or, maybe there could be a thread where the board make a list of proposals to be purged, and then one of the current mods could take care of it. If proposals that should not have been deleted are deleted, I'm sure it will be brought up in a thread. The proposal could be resubmitted, and if necessary, the mod or board members who deleted the proposal or suggested the deletion could be replaced.

It's a great idea. Believe me, I'm the last person who'd refuse any kind of labour-saving device. The problem is, as is made quite clear all over the place (forum, UN Proposal Submission Page and possibly the FAQ as well), the way to get it instituted isn't by proposing it at the UN.

As it stands now, I'm more than happy for people to TG me saying "this proposal needs deletion". It's always handy to have someone else who has the same opinion - or a different one - with a borderline proposal.
