Who left the UN because of the Labor Union Proposal?

25-11-2003, 01:55
Just wondering how many people will be leaving or have left due to the most recent resolution.

Not sure I'll go that far. Not happy about it.

I've seen resignation announcements like this during my entire tenure as UN Ambassador [ooc: since I joined NS]. They've never made much of a difference.

AnteNicea will leave the UN the day after tommorow, pending consultation from our fellow Region Members.

This was our first UN Resolution encounter and judging from the UN's despotic voting regulations which allow for a vocal minority to impose Tyrrany upon the fast majority It will be our last! Unless these voting policies are changed at some time in the future.

Actually this really isn't meant as a resignation announcement, I'm just curious to see how many people left recently due to the last proposal. Besides if it were meant for that I would have made thread a lot more showy. :P

2 things. 1.)what is this last propsal that you think is such a joke. and 2.) I never joined the U.N. because I believe I am the one that is best suited to know what is good for my people. I don't even let them decide what is good for them why should I allow someone who doesn't live in the country decide?

I only joined the U.N. so I could rule my region and protect it, but in doing so, I fear that the U.N. will strip away my nation's Sovereignty. Perhaps one day I can rule my region without joining the U.N. *hint**hint*

As for the recent resolutions I believe that many members simply vote yes if the title looks like it will promote general equality. Half of these resolutions passed are viewed as little more than a joke in my nation, and they will be continued to be viewed as such until the end of time.

It is quite foolish to vote for a UN resolution without proper thought about the subject. I use the last vote as an example. The idea of a leader voting in favour of losing some control over his populus, why create an opposition, when you can continue to steadily guide your nation the way you were before?, and if for some reason you felt you needed the labour unions to better handle your nation, you have no place being the leader. You may as well forfiet your nation to the nearest threat, because you have already shown your lack of power and strength, and it is just a matter of time before you fold to the pressure

I've been around even longer than goob and I've seen many more resignation announcements than him.

I remember the good ole days when we had a 50 page vote on the gay rights resolution, and when it passed, the forums were filled with people announcing resignation and/or thier ignoring of the UN resolution.

I must have said "You don't have a choice" about a billion times.

We are currently debating this issue at the moment whatever to leave or not. Even if we can agree on most of the last proposal, to enforce this kind of stupid law will require more than a simple vote.
Some matters of internal politic have no place in a public debate, nor should be eligible for a vote from ppl who are not citizens of our country.

This kind of political ingerence from foreign government will not be tolerated, and if anyone tries to enforce it in Feliscatus, be prepare for a cold nuclear winter.

The people of Darranack approved the resolution 83% to 17% in a nation-wide referendum. We were already strongly pro-labor, but we are happy that Worker's Rights are being spread across the world.

Any nation that voted against this illegal proposal that decides to leave, please leave my aide-de-camp a memo. I'll get in touch.

Seems I've decided that even though I voted NO, I'll remain as a thorn in the side of those who think the UN is just some play toy and violate the ideals and guidelines the UN has based itself on for all these years. My nation ratified a constitution prior to being recognized officially as a nation and of course, prior to becomming a UN member. Thus since the UN felt my nation was following UN guidelines at the time, they accepted me as a nation as well as accepting my nation's Constitution. My nation's ratified Constitution ensures no union will ever step foot in my nation.

If leaving the UN means my nation will be able to repeal the laws made and repair my economy, then Scaraba will consider it. Will my resignation help rebuild, or is it fruitless?

I am strongly considering leaving the UN. I went from being a "capitalist paradise" to a "democratic socialism" overnight. Needless to say, I am furious. I will definately give thought to resignation.

That would be something to ask one of the Game Mods about, you will get at least 2 issues concerning unions so if you leave the UN that means you can pick the anti-union options or the options that reduce union power. I have no idea if this resolution will keep UN nations from having those issues.

This statement was issued last friday by the press office -
"The Crown has seen this resolution and her words are thus - "We are not amused. If this resolution is passed and imposed on our lands, we shall voice our displeasure by removing the 'Compliance Ministry' from our Realm and recalling our Ambassador from the UN. We have very good relations between our Trade Ministry and the various guilds, craft assocations, and trade groups and do not need or want any 'outside interference' in how workers ply their trade. It is our desire that a vote against the resolution be cast."

These are the words of Mian, by the grace of the Goddess, Queen of the Furry Folk."

Well, as we all know now the resolution passed and is now being imposed on all member nations. So true to her word, our Queen has issued a directive to the UN Compliance Ministry to pack up and absent themselves from the Dominion of the Furry Folk by the end of the week or face removal by force, if neccessary. Also all laws imposed by the Compliance Ministry are hereby repealed by Imperial decree.

I hear you... my economy went from "strong" to "weak" in one night. All of a sudden I have all sorts of wonderful problems that never existed before.

Day one: Chipland is a new free Republic, developing economy.

Day two: Chipland is admitted to the UN, labour resolution passed, imploded economy.

Day three: Chipland is again a free Republic... :)

Yeah- this was the last straw. I withdrew my nation from the UN this morning.

Frankly, my nation doesn't care one way or another who wants to turn their OWN nation into a socialist-Communist paradise. Have at it. But have the common sense to not try forcing those beliefs on other nations.

This resolution was amongst the most short-sighted, pompous, arrogant, and utterly careless resolutions I've seen passed.

Withdrew due to the effects of this resolution. I have thought about it a few times in the past, but smashing a frightening econmoy (and I have generally gone 50/50 on labor rights - spliting my issues betwwen pro-labor and pro-capitalist) to a powerhouse (2 LEVELS!) was too much.
