To Join or Not?

24-11-2003, 18:03
As a newcomer to the world of international diplomacy and politics, my nation needs to decide whether it is worth our joining the United Nations at this time.

I have a fear that my soverign rights will not be supported if we do. Is it actually worth our while to jump into the sandbox?

Colin Khristophus,
Dominion of Khristophan.

The Most Serene Republic of Etanistan urges the Dominion of Khristophan to join the United Nations. Our people have found that state sovereignty has not been given up by entering into a free association of nations. It is good for fostering friendship with other nations and for settling international disputes in a democratic, nonviolent manner. The United Nations gives our citizens the international outlook they need in today's interconnected world.

Kiss your sovereignty goodbye. You have as much sovereignty in the UN as a dog in the pound.

And that is what worries me. Every nation has the right to govern itself without intervention from other nations and although I can see some benefits to joining, the ability of other nations to impose their will over our sovereignty is unacceptable.

DO NOT JOIN IF you Love your Right to Self Determination. The UN , although a good idea for fostering better global cooperation, currently is a body in which a minimal minority can impose their will upon the Vast Majority. In Practice the UN is the exact opposit of what it publicly Values.

I don't necessarily advise against joining, but keep in mind that there WILL be resolutions passed which you do not agree with, and will be implemented in YOUR country. One passed just today sent my economy from thriving to weak, and tripled my tax rate.

Keep that in mind.

If you resign from the UN, will your stats go back to what they were?

Why is that? Shouldn't you be able to repeal those laws after you weren't a UN member nation anymore?

It has come to the attention of the House of Usher of the Rogue Nation of Metzengerstein that certain parties of the region of Necromancia are considering joining the UN. This is a matter of concern for us, for we Metzengers are a freedom-loving people who resent outside intrusion -- on top of that there have recently been harsh words exchanged between the ruling body of Kristophan and Metzengerstein.

We will watch these proceedings closely to determine our course of action (or inaction!).

nervously looks around
Well DONT join...all UN mandates, resolutions and laws are null and void...all of your country's laws are null and void. All because of the new Resolution. Terrorists now can run unions with impunity and use nukes w/out any actions being taken against them..
sees black jumpsuited thugs wearing Union armbands running towards him with tonfas in hand

Dont join! Resist the Unions!

runs like hell to avoid a beating

Why is that? Shouldn't you be able to repeal those laws after you weren't a UN member nation anymore? Yes and no, since your in the UN you can't take a stance that goes against when an issue comes up. However, if you leave the UN then you take stances that are the opposite to what the UN does and maybe get some issues that UN members wouldn't get because of certain resolutions. You just can't undo it all at once.
