All Sports - Free to Air!

24-11-2003, 01:48
Hi All, the below resoloution has recently been proposed and is looking for support from those sporting nations out there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The right to free to air sport

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Nouvelle Zealandia

Description: All sports games involving two or more different countries national teams (or national representatives) should be delivered free to air to both participating nations populations.

Governments will be required to ensure that citizens without TV's are able to go to mass meeting points (such as Pubs or beer halls) where a suitable TV will be set up for the masses to watch.

Governments are not allowed to place advertising breaks during the play/competition, (ie between overs in cricket)but can however play ads during a drinks or half/quarter time break if they so choose.

Governments cannot force citizens to watch the sports games, it will be entirely the citizens own decision if they decide to watch it or not.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please support this proposal for the good of all your sports fans!

No, cricket is a British sport, best (although poorly) described as a variation of American baseball.

FAO Foreign/Culture Minister,

In theory this is a noble idea however some more work needs to be done. For example what is to be done with the current contracts that have been negotiated with companies such as our own Kaisers Media Korperation. (KMK-“the Broadcaster of Truth everywhere”)

However the largest problem lies in the following point. If the Government has a monopoly on broadcast rights then it will obviously not have any competition, by the very nature of a monopoly. Therefore Governments would put in low amounts of cash to the organisations in question which is then distributed through the club game. With no competition therefore, all of sport suffers, due to a lack of funding. There could be a minimum amount that has to be spent included in the draft proposal but this then means we wonder off into the realm of subsidies which in my opinion the UN is not permitted to interfere with. I am not alone in this thought, and therefore you would lose support.

Another not altogether unrelated point is where would this idea stop i.e. could a similar proposal be used for the idea of the news. As it happened the KMK is the only news station in ImperlisticPrussia, but for those who don’t have such a noble service dedicated to professionalism and truth this could lead to “mistruths” e.g. become a mouthpiece for leftist ideals.

However if these points were to be taken on board, then the fundamental point would get support.

Yours Diplomatically,

Kaiser Matt the Ace, CiC Army Navy, Air Force, Special Forces, Chief Diplomat, Domestic and Foreign Policy Specialist, Chief Historian and Director of the KMK. VC. (For the defeat of the USSR armed only with a pointy stick.

This requirement alone is far to stringent. If we have a citizen who is bedridden and lives miles from civilization, are we reqired to transport him or her to the nearest location with a big screen TV?
