Carmarthen Passes Emergency Labour Law: Unions stricken!

24-11-2003, 01:45
In a stunningly swift move of the High Council, Carmarthen has passed a new law, effective immediately.

The precepts are as follows:

* That the act of joining a Union is an industrial action.
* That Employers are not required to pay employees whilst they undergo any industrial action of any kind.
* That Employers may immediately terminate any employee undergoing an industrial action, except in the case of strike where they a mediator will be appointed by the Government, who is neither employer nor employee and hence unbiased.
* That, should in the case of unbiased mediation, a union or union member be found wanting, they may be forced to repay the employer for the time lost caused by that union or union member by their industrial action.
* That the government does found the ONLY Union for the Armed forces, service industries (Police, Fire etc) and other such vital support groups (teachers, public transit). Should an employee not wish to join this union they are thereby refusing their right to joining a Union and are not given option to form another.
* That the government gives a Income 3% tax break to any employee NOT in a Union.

These laws are currently being refind by Carmarthen and further ammendments are likely to... alter... how Unions operate within our borders.

Wow that's intelligent, pass a law that will become void in two days anyways.

Nope. Read the resolution. Read my law. Funnily enough, my law seems to take advantage of a few awfully open holes in that resolution.
24-11-2003, 01:58
Actually section 5 basically says what you're doing falls under section 7 which means that your little law doesn't matter.
24-11-2003, 02:06
Again, read my law. The employer DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE based on their union status.

And 7 means nothing because NOTHING in my law goes against the points in that resolution.

Deal with it, I just found a huge loophole.

Since the Rationality is not a member of the UN, we don't have to worry about our economy collapsing due to this resolution. Our labor regulations will remain as they are.
In regards to unions, they are treated as any other free association. They don't have any particular protections and are not recognized by the government as a bargaining agent. If they incorporate, they can make contracts, but they are prohibited from being monopolies or forming monopolistic coalitions, just like businesses are.
Unions can go on strike, but unless they have a contract that stipulates otherwise, union members can renegotiate their employment individually with the company. Picketing is not allowed on public property if it obstructs traffic in any way, or on private property at all, and the union, as a corporation, can be sued for any damage caused by its members in the course of a labor dispute. And just like any other corporation, if it bankrupts, the owners assume the debts - corporations in Rationality are not "limited liability".

The Empire of Mad Cash Money has recently passed a law redefining the legal definition of a union to a peice of fruit. From this time on, if the union proposal is passed all peices fruits in the Empire of Mad Cash Money will be given the rights granted to them by the UN resolution.

What once was legally defined as a labor union will now be called a hexamethylenetetramine.

I think it's safe to say that the UN is devoid of Rationality.

Boom tish.

i think there are too many socialist on this site who dont realize that, contrary to what their nation profiles may say, their ideas would not work in real life.

The Commonwealth of Billthecat this past friday called an emergency meeting of the Assembly to pass a comprehensive set of labor laws designed to give the government the right ro countermand the acts of labor unions if the need should arise.

We openly admit that this is directly counter to the spirit and the letter of the current UN proposal. The UN has no direct measure of power to force us into rescinding our soveraign law. If the matter should make it to the world court, we will happily debate to demonstrate the ridiculous and contradicctory nature of this proposal. If the UN should attempt to force their mandate upon us, we will defend ourselves in a most disproportionate manner.

am ok dressed man walks in with a grin and a gin
Ladies and gentlemen that oppose this heinous proposal of communist design. Please remain calm because in their arrogance, they made a fatal flaw especially if htis proposal gets passed. One where some UN nations will be able to outright BAN unions and not have any repercussions done to them.
grins evilly

Gotta love those flaws..
