Equality For All resolution

17-11-2003, 02:34
In regards to the current resolution before the United Nations: This is a worthwhile proposition and the nation of Wascal has voted in favor; however, it seems to us that recent UN proposals before the UN are pretty much all the same thing. Equality and decent treatment of all peoples without regard to race, color, creed, or whatever. Are there ANY original ideas out there? We all seem to agree that people should be treated with respect and dignity and that our planet should be respected as well. Someone give us something requiring some real thinking before voting.

Do the people of Wascal eat?

The fact is, this is a terrible resolution. It asserts that humans, plants and animals have the same right to existance, and it is illegal to kill plants or animals to eat. It's a dangerous resolution. If passed, all member nations would eventually starve.

A large group of member nations have mounted a significant opposition. Cowes suggests that you vote against this resolution.

If plants are protected from being killed, we will have nothing to eat  We ought to turn your country into lava for sentencing us to death.

I consider starvation harm - therefore within the wording of the proposal I consider little wooly lambs not allowing me to eat them as causing harm - same goes for those sneaky potatoes...

Good idea. We need to develop replicators.

I'd like to announce that my nation and my six puppet nations are all working very hard to mass-produce food replicators by the billions. I hereby give out the data files necessary for other nations to build them.

Question.

What are the plants gonna do when you cut them down to eat? Complain to the UN? :D

And don't tell me there's gonna be some environmentalist inspector from the UN in your country, watching you -- they'd all die out since they couldn't eat anything. In effect, the resolution only applies to intelligent lifeforms, since the non-intelligent life forms won't be able to put up a fight.

Me personally, I'm voting Yes just to annoy the conservatives. :D

If need be, Necrotasia loves it's burgers..especially bacon burgers. So we could start putting the dead carcasses of cows and pigs into some pools of sewage and grow some disease for you.

It's how our ancestors defeated the natives..erm..civilized the natives of the land. We used trebuchets and dead, diseased cows. Ahh..the looks on their small faces as a cow filled with pus and bacteria flew overhead and went *splat* in their town center...took only 3 days to conquer..erm reach a peace negotiation.

We are strongly considering an attack on united middle-earth, the creator of this resolution. It would be helpful if you help us.

105 gap
17-11-2003, 03:12
Originally stated in the, "Equality for All" proposition
-All living beings no matter who or what they may be, have the inherent right of existence.
There was a flaw in that sentence that had generated a fierce opposition to this proposition, for reasons that have already been stated in posts preceding mine: The part of, "All living beings" implies that even organisms that do not actively move about (i.e. plants), are capable of living on the same level of animals, humans, and whatnot. Perhaps United Middle-Earth could have been more specific when making that proposal, by perhaps not stretching out equality to non-Human beings.

"I am a liberal and not in support of the resolution. Do not make decisions based on the party line."

These two statements seem to contradict.

"Think and vote independently."

I do. :D

"Do not let your citizens starve to death. Do not let innocent people die."

I have no intent to. Answer the question suitably, and I change my vote: who would stop me from having a symbiotic relationship with my garden? I water it, I plant it, I make sure it lives forever, and it sustains me. Same can be extended to farms, domestic animals, etc. Now A) symbiotic relationships are what the resolution supports, and B) if some UN guy tried to stop me, he'd die of hunger from following his own rules. So who'll stop me?

There is a serious challenge to the authority of the UN and it's relevance in the world court by passing this resolution. As you have stated, this is a redundancy, and even worse it is a vague one. There are already resolutions that cover this issue in better detail, by electing this on the notion of 'good idea' we are succumbing to pagentry. This proposal violates the intent and good of better written previously passsed proposals and also violates resolution 245A. While it has been argued that this is a game mechanic resolution and therefore invalid I propose that we, as UN member states, can enforce this resolution on our own by voting down violating proposals.

Take Agency in the UN. Don't vote good ideas, vote good proposals. We can give ourselves back the power!

Please note that The Oppressed Peoples of Cannot think of a name believe strongly in human rights, but we also believe that the UN should have agency!

Take back the UN!

Saul 2 Paul wrote in another thread :
I have read this resolution and a lot (not all) the post on this thread. It strikes me as a little strange that everyone here has jumped on the idea of starvation and total rights, but noone mentioned the other thing wrong with this proposal. It is also an attempt to totally legalize homosexuality, beastiality, or whatever other kind of twisted sexual preference a person whiches to claim. So I guess the author is looking to make it so you can't possibly survive (by not eating anything to sustain life) but while you are dying you can have sex with whatever you wish.

Ok, this means that new light has been shed on this proposal. If passed, your religious ideals could conflict with said 'laws'.
Example...

Church A believes in heterosexual lifestyles AND tolerates homosexual lifestyles (just doesnt let them become priests, etc).

Church B believes that through love of all of god's creatures, there can only be true happiness and there fore endorses beastiality.

Church A under the EFA Proposal has to allow this because in their church in the name of 'equality'.

Church B smiles with this idea.

Church C comes along and promotes necrophilia, thus disgusting everyone but everyone has to allow them to be and allow it in their churches because of EFA Proposal.

basically, EFA means all religions have to become the same. Granted, different ideals are base for different religions, and nothing wrong with that but who decides in the religion part, what is equal and what isnt?

If you're religious, vote No and save your theological ideals. If you aren't, vote No to save yourself from zealots who by UN Resoultion will be able to enforce their ideals on your country as long as you are a member.

An outrage! If all are equal, is the Church of Froiselle the same status as of a commoner? Is the Royal Family of Froiselle as equal as a commoner? Are the troops that defend the Imperial Nation the same as a treacherous drug dealer?

Of coruse not! Hiearchy and status exists in this nation as the supreme back bone of the government.

The Kingdom of Froiselle and the Church declares this reolution horrid and has voted against it.
17-11-2003, 05:13
Woot! The opposition is leading by a margin of 8 votes...! The enlightenment of many UN countries of this abomination of a proposal through a filibuster has been successful! (Bah, I know that I had used the word, "of" too many times.)
17-11-2003, 05:18
I have an idea, why don't we amend it with the statement: "Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food. " I can not claim authorship of this though and gleefully credit Anton Szandor LaVey with this. It comes from "The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth". I would work, wouldn't it?

I like the resolution, I just think I agree, its too non-specific. perhaps this will help.

What are you people arguing about, you have taken this issue and spun it so many ways that you are arguing your own creations. I state symbiosis, the life cycle which includes death, and more importantly the word being, an amoeba is not a being contrary to the belief of those riding the chariots screaming death and destruction! This has nothing to do with vegans and eating habits, it says quite clearly LIVE AND LET LIVE. Those who have said that we can't protect ourselves from diseases and such are you serious...listen to yourselves. You argue the points of this proposal stating that if this were the real UN, it would never have been worded in such a way. It isn't if this were the UN the proposal would have consisted of taking the floor and addressing everyone with the proposal, and the resolution when signed has an attached agreement/decree of the understood provisions and interpretations of such. This can not be done here, that is why when the proposal was first submitted, there were a couple of forum pages devoted to the topic, which explained and answered anyones questions. There were few because the delegates were asked personally by me, to visit those pages before voting on the topic...that is why it was passed because people did their homework. The UN members had the responsibility, and obligation to do the same, but some nations, instead of getting their "homework" done...or maybe for whatever hidden agenda decided to create mass-hysteria, and scream the "end of the world". Do your research seek out the agreed understanding of this proposal without falling victim to this nonesense of hysterics. Search the chat strings for my nations' name if you have to, but be informed!!!!
