Equality For All

15-11-2003, 23:23
"All living beings no matter who or what they may be, have the inherent right of existence"

Maybe I'm reading this too literally, but I don't like this wording, maybe if we agree that it means all INTELLGENT living beings, or HUMANOID beings. I mean, plants are living beings, I don't want to go about giving my vegetables a right, I want to harvest and eat them, and not have to pay them...vegetables in my country tend to squander their money away on needless fertilizer and get addicted to pesticides.

Another problem is that it appears inherently flawed and contradictory. One, it is a propsal to "improve worldwide human and civil rights." Yet states in the proposal: "We propose that all nations under the UN charter respect the very essence of life and vow to preserve and protect it, in all its many forms whether human, or otherwise. " One seems human exclusive, one states it is not...we cannot have it both ways. Therefore, due to the confusing and contradictory nature of this proposal, it must be rejected!

The Cowes government very much agrees. However, as it appears that many UN Voters aren't looking into this resolution hard enough. At last check, it was about 5000-1500 for starving their citizens.

The Commonwealth of Cowes has begun an active lobbying campaign to get delegates to vote against this measure. However, our small country can't handle this by itself.

We can't have free rights for all. If we do, people will start getting ideas and thinking. What will that mean for us leaders? We will have to submit to everything these reptiles want. That means we have to please everyone, a task which is impossible. Either we vote this down, or my region leaves the UN.

It also suggests, though, that they have a symbiotic relationship.

We gave the plants life, and they give us sustinence.

Sounds plenty symbiotic to me. I support the resolution

So... symbiotic relationship. I hunt the rabbit, the plant gets to not get eaten. I have fun and food (or maybe its rotting carcass can go to the plants). Yes, sounds very symbiotic to me.

Now what will be proposed as punishment for when a venus flytrap eats a fly, or a lion eats a zebra? Should we try to lobotomize all creatures before the actual passing of this resolution? Perhaps my worse emotion was to be apart of the body where this document is being debated at. This shall end.

No, we need to support it, and the Clarification of Equality.

The EFA is currently unenforceable. There is no way to make people stop getting hungry aside from killing them, and I doubt any nations citizens are willing to up and kill themselves because of a law the UN passed. What we need to do is support the EFA, and pass the CoE wich will render the EFA useful and enforceable.

the proposal for clarification should not need to be written, as th eproposal should be well written and thought out before it is posted, and addendums and clarification proposals rerely pass. this resolution Needs to be deleted Now.

And what are you going to do if the EFA passes? Voting on the CoE will have ended before then and there won't be a proposal ready to fix anything then for a week or more. Even if you don't expect it to pass, it needs the support so that you can at least have a contigency plan.

We have scored another major victory! The twoslit experiment, of 582 votes voted AGAINST the resolution.
