What do you think?

Sovereign Free Trade
A resolution to restrict political freedoms in the interest of law and order.

Category: Political Stability Strength: Mild Proposed by: Jacobstalia
Description: Whereas if “Sovereign Free Trade” is passed, the UN will never have the mandate to enforce all UN nations to commit to free trade, unless a further resolution specifically voids “Sovereign Free Trade”.
The business of free trade should be held to the decision of the sovereign nation and not be even considered part of the UN responsibility. The only restriction that “Sovereign Free Trade” entails is limiting the power of UN over the issue of enforcing free trade.

For clarification, modern examples of free trade agreements and organizations would be the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Again, if “Sovereign Free Trade” becomes a passed resolution, then only sovereign nations and not the UN shall only decide to be part of modern organizations and free trade agreements such as those listed above, unless “Sovereign Free Trade” is made void by a future resolution.

Game mechanics. The U.N. cannot restrict what proposals the U.N. can pass.

Why do folks see the need to tell other folks what to do within their own borders? Here is yet another reason any level headed person would no join the U.N.

I agree. I think the UN should exist only to stop people from doing things OUTSIDE their borders, with the exception of any atrocities being committed, in which case the UN should step in.

Yet this propsal restricts the mandate of the UN... How is this 'telling folks what to do within their own borders'?

Maybe I was too tired when I read that message. I understood it to say only the UN would mandate those things. If not then I withdraw my remark, but still think no level headed individual would join the U.N.
