Yes, I have no clue what you're speaking of. Enlighten us, please.

The current UN resolution, obviously...

I voted for it. Allemondians are very enviromentally concious. We hope that it will improve the world's air quality.

We know which resolution he's talking about, but he obviously misread it. The resolution says that each nation will voluntarily decide what parts, if any, of their country should be protected. Nothing will be forced on anyone.

We of the USSZ would have preferred a more aggresive plan to protect creation, but we are most certainly in favour of this one.

This resolution is not right, what is sacred and meaningful to one nation could be utter trash to the others of the world. You can't regulate what is special and isn't special.

All UN nations may voluntarily list sites of environmental significance both internally and globally. Listed sites would be protected from logging, mining and other environmentally-damaging activities.
What if Nevermoore says the giant rotting post of compost in NationX is sacred? Will they have to protect it? According to this, they will.

Exactly what I'm afraid of. Even supposing that we somehow ignore that problem, what exactly is the point of passing a UN resolution that gives nations the optional power to control what happens within their own borders -- if they feel like it. There's no need for a resolution like that to be passed.

This resolution is a threat to the autonomy of every country in the world. If any country can unilateraly dictate environmental policy to any other country, there WILL be problems.

it this comes about im declaring my nuclear waste dumps a part of my world heritage... Enjoy!

If no country is going to be forced to do anything, what the hell is the damn point of this resolution?

Emphasis mine.

Hrm. Good point. Didn't catch that. As noted, we of the USSZ are still quite happy with this resolution, more happy, if anything. We assume that there would be some adjudication of the suggested sites, though.

If that were the case, we'd happily support the proposal. It doesn't seem to be, though; the proposal makes it look like one country's designating something a "Heritage Site" is enough to make it so.

hrmm i wonder how hard it'll be for me to every single military vessle and base a protected heritage sight, so they're protected by the UN when they're doing a fancy little bit of landscapping on my enemies terrain.

As I have indicated elsewhere and shall repeat again here, any attempt to grant "World Heritage Status" by a nation outside of its borders is insane!

If (or rather when, since this is getting massive support by fools who cannot read the fine print,) this resolution passes, I will declare the entire world a "Heritage Zone," and demand that no industrial activity occur anywhere in the world. Obviously you can see how foolish a resolution like this can be.

Please vote NO!
