EL CID THE HERO
10-11-2003, 14:38
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy Strength: Strong Proposed by: Yodastan
Description: This resolution concerns the largest region of Nationstates, the region known as 'The Pacific'. This region is under the tyranical control of a nation called Franco's Spain. Franco's removes any nation who speaks against his/her ideas or even endorses another nation in the region too much. Many outspoken nations have been banned to stop their words against him and the majority keep quiet so as to not get kicked out themselves.

This resolution votes to remove Franco's Spain from the position of UN Delegate and replace him/her with a democratically elected nation to end the war and restore peace to 'The Pacific' and indeed the whole of nationstates.

Approvals: 2 (Francos Spain, Free Socialism)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 119 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Thu Nov 13 2003

Do I see the approval of Franco's Spain on the resolution? Furthermore, for all nations that hate the tyrannical rule of Franco's Spain.. I ask them to leave and form a new region (perhaps called "Free Pacific" or some other name they like,) or just join one of the thousands of other Nationstates regions... there is clearly no need to create a resolution over this internal matter.

I see it as well. Strange, but true.

Indeed.

Resolutions against specific players are not considered acceptable under any circumstances. I have alerted the Game Moderators to this proposal; it will probably be removed.

Those interested in removing Francos Spain from power should contact Ackbar or Kandarin. UN resolutions will only adjust internal national statistics and will not remove any Delegate from power.

Which is unfortunate, as that is how the UN works in the real world. Tyrannical dictators are often condemned by UN resolutions, and even occasionally removed by UN forces. I don't know much about the Pacific situation, and I'm really not commenting on this situation in specific, but the UN in general is the body to deal with any and all international issues. That includes the condemnation of dictators. I understand that that's not how it works here, I'm just saying that it's too bad it doesn't. Maybe that'll be a NS2 feature? ;)

Zeke's point is good and I hope that you take the time to put it in the appropriate Forum (regarding the use of the UN to condemn human rights violations, dictators, etc.)

This situation, however, is very easy to solve (from my viewpoint anyway.) As soon as UN members leave, they can reduce the amount of power that Franco's Spain has in voting, and if enough care to start a new region, good for them!

I hope that this forum is no longer used for internal affairs, and I commend the actions of Cogitation for alerting the appropriate mods so the proposal can be removed (there are many pages of proposals as it is... there is no need to clog them with these issues!)
