The UN as a world government

I am not opposed to this. I just would like to make it more clear as to whether it is or not.

The FAQ states as such:

"The UN is the world's governing body. It proposes and votes on resolutions, which are then binding on all member nations."

Does this implicitly mean that the UN IS a world government, or simply just a body that ensures that each nation remains in line with each other and that the people of each nation is protected?

Pardon my stubborness, I just like clarity. I realize sometimes it is not possible, but in this case I believe that it is.

The bottom line from my point of view is this:

The UN is capable of passing resolutions to (for example) tighten world gun control or make gambling illegal. It never has yet, but the ability is there. There's an argument which says that this is terrible because those issues are the purvey of individual nations, which is quite true. If the fact that the individual nations might, if certain resolutions are passed, have to cede sovereignty over these issues to the UN makes it a World Government, then it is one.

We think that some of the most recent resolutions considered in the U.N. would give that body the character of a world government. Most of those resolutions have fortunately been defeated, but a few have passed. I suppose there is no way to prevent the U.N. from passing such resolutions, but public opinion should certainly be alerted as to their dangers. After all, the point of the game is to create and govern our own nations--not to give some world body the power to do it for us.

The UN's website explicitly states that it is not a government... which only means that they don't want you to think that they see themselves that way. I'm not as paranoid as that might sound. Another way to look at it is to ask the question: Are there any nations who are not members of the UN? What effect do UN resolutions have on them?

I'm not in favor of the UN as a world government. International relations are not ready for a world government, and the UN is not ready for th ejob.

We would only support any such resolution if it was made clear that Killerland was in charge of the world government, after all, who wouldn't want to rule the world :D

PS: There is a difference between governing body and government, cant really be bothered explaing/debating, lets face it, we should all just have a dictatorship, one land to rule them all - mine!
