On the proposal "Leave My Country Alone"

Leave My Country Alone
A resolution to restrict political freedoms in the interest of law and order.

Category: Political Stability Strength: Strong Proposed by: Diabla
Description: Looking through past resolutions and current proposals, its easy to see that many nations feel they have the right to rule my country! I understand freedoms are important but certain freedoms should be to the discretion of the nation, not the world.

*Important issues such as freedom of speech, gun laws, drugs laws, or any other "freedom" laws should be banned from entering the United Nations floor. These laws should be made by a nation, not a assembly.*

Approvals: 1 (Beanbag Chairs)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 120 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Tue Nov 11 2003

It is the belief of this government that this resolution (though roughly worded) is the epitomy of the UN attempting to become a world government and not a regulating assembly that attempts to keep peace and bring about the betterment of the world.

Looking through the backlog of proposals awaiting support, anti-gun law proposals can be seen, gun law proposals can be seen, and drug law proposals can be seen.

It is the opinion of this delegate that such laws should be left up to the discretion of each individual government. This is not my proposal, but I believe that it deserves support so that the UN can keep itself on track and worry about the issues that are truly universal [i.e. the proposals about stopping child cruelty, the proposals about the removal of nuclear toxins, proposals about protecting the ozone layer, etc.].

Let's concern ourselves with real human rights and issues that can be universally applied. Gun control, military spending, better police forces... htat is all up to individual governments to decide.

The UN is, and I feel should be should be a world government. You forfeit your sovereignty upon joining, and if you don't like it, feel free to leave.

The UN is the world's governing body. It proposes and votes on resolutions, which are then binding on all member nations. In other words, it's a hot-bed of political intrigue and double-dealing.

Your nation can join the UN, but it's not compulsory. As a non-member, you are unaffected by any UN decisions. So if you're happy looking after your nation and don't want to dabble in international politics, don't join up.

Baron Porkonia, you might a meaningless battle. The mindless sheep of the United Nations love their pathetic system far too much to change. Any reasonable nations eventually grow tired and leave this failing institution. Sometimes as I get out of bed to drive to this ridiculous building I wonder; "Why God? Why won't we just leave the UN and I can have my old job of Minister of Foreign Relations back?" For some reason the High Council of Nevermoore wants us to linger for just a while longer... I need a vacation.

Hmm... interesting. Then if this truly is a world government, then there needs to be a little more due process. All proposals should be first done as pre-proposals to be debated and revised according to the compromises achieved. Then the polished proposal should then be posted for the final vote. A one step proposal creation process opens up the door for legal loopholes to blow things wide open.
