Kudzu

04-11-2003, 23:30
Just for the sake of trying, LOK has submitted a proposal to the UN.

We would be forever indebted to any nation who chooses to (toungue in cheek, of course) support this proposal.

It's a Japanese plant that was transported to Georgia because it was pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, the Georgian ecosystem did not possess the means to keep its growth under control and thus the plant spread and "consumed" the Southern state.

i must say when i saw your proposal my first reaction was to try and destroy the plant

Kudzu is an amazingly resilient plant. There are lessons to be learned from this plant-which is quite pleasing to look at (in picture books of far away lands!). It has been, shall we say, useful in the prevention of erosion and the concealment of entire settlements that were not so pleasing to the eye.

It's only natural enemy is goats-of which there are far to many on this planet...save the Kudzu!

Kudzu taste great too! I've had the leaves in a broth and it's scrummy.

(Note: Incorruptibles is only joking. He has not, is not, and will not beating Kudzu leaf broth. If anyone should become ill by following this suggestion, it is not the Incorruptibles' responsibility.)

Yes, thank you. Kudzu is an evil alien species which needs no protection. Down with Kudzu! Vote No!

Why not just let The various departments of Agriculture make desicions based on the combined environmental and agriculture concerns of their state/nation. We could never completely destroy kudzu anyway.

Because they are incapable!!!! That's why we have the UN...to take care of us and make the laws we need to manage our nations..since we aren't capable of it ourselves, as evidenced by the last resolution.

Down with goats! Up with Kudzu!!!

The Holy Empire has been remarkably lucky so far and kept dangerous plants like this out, and frankly we see no real need for the United Nations to get involved in a matter like this. Now if in the future the plant threatens the agricultural lands of poorer nations we might see offering monetary aid to a fund to help those nations deal with the blight, but even then there need not be a resolution like the one currently proposed.

Those of us with a sense of humor should be supporting this proposal-with tongue planted firmly in cheek, of course.

I mean, who wouldn't want to protect such a wonderful plant?

It drapes so beautifully across our highways, following the phone lines, and provides such convienient camoflauge for our rusted out trucks that don't start anymore.

Goats are incredibly hard on Kudzu...it takes an animal with a strong digestive system to cope with this plant....we must save the Kudzu from such predators!
