Input on Compulsory Preschool Education

29-10-2003, 21:16
I am seeking support from a regional delegate to back a proposal mandating compulsory preschool education for children ages 3-5.

The purpose of this initiative is to enhance learning opportunities for preschool aged children, promote early literacy efforts, and prepare children for success upon reaching school.

Obviously better educated children will make better citizens, consumers and workers.

The Free Land of Youghiogheny seeks the input and advice from other nation-states as to the need for compulsory preschool education within their spheres of influence as well as data on any successful programs currently operating.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this issue.

The UN should not stick its nose into this topic. Education programs are up to individual Nations.

DaRight WingConspiracy is against any such proposal.

We in Gurthark support the spirit of what you are trying to do with this proposal.

However, it seems to put the cart before the horse. Many nations are having serious trouble maintaining adequate primary and secondary educational systems. We certainly agree that developing nations with functional education for children and adolescents between 6 and 16 should consider preschool as a next step (and Gurthark, which considers education one of its top priorities, provides excellent education from preschool through post-graduate study), but poor nations have bigger educational worries than their preschool systems, and requiring them to devote a share of their already meager educational budget to preschooling would be counterproductive.

Sincerely,
