should the UN allow immortality to develop

should a nation develop the technology to live for ever should it be developed or banned. wouldn't it cause overpopulation and deplition of the worlds reosources? and wouldn't that go against UN laws? Are we Playing god? what would result?

Technology = Good

Always. Period. Fine.

You are NEVER justified in restricting the R&D of a technology so long as the R&D does not violate rights in and of itself (i.e. kidnapping people to perform medical experiments on).

but isn't having that many more people taking away the rights of others by not having enough reosources for all or having that many more poor and that many more sick doesn't that create an imbalance in the rights of the individual. i think if it were to pass it would need to have a very intracit system of checks and balences

This is a sort of thing that really shouldn't concern the UN. This goes beyond immortality to the realm of morality, which begs the question, are we playing God?

The Drama Isles doesn't think so. We believe that immortality is intriguing, but it is kinda impossible, y'know? We hope the UN will not support this resolution. The Fountain of Youth was never found, and probably for a good reason...

Leave immortality alone.

Even if the UN outlaws it, human immortality projects will still occur. We can't stop them, as there are many nations out of UN control who have the resources to attempt such a project. What would we do, bomb them?

We don't know what "playing God" is, because we don't know what God does.

Hell, we don't even know if there is a God.

But science clearly exists, and it should therefore be given teh benefit of the doubt. I will live forever... or die trying! MUHAHAHAHAHA! :twisted:

I think that real immortality in the strict sense of the word is impossible, as all cells eventually break down. However, a different form of immortality would be possible. Though I will not divulge how to do this.

Lets think about this. Why would anyone want to live forever? Life would eventually become boring. Everyone you ever met or will meet will die and leave you alone. Even if those you met were immortal themselves you would eventually tire of their company. God, Lluvatar, Eru, Allah; which ever supreme being you pray to had it right when he doomed man to oldage and death. Lets leave well enough alone.
