Declaration of Rights

27-10-2003, 04:05
The Republic of Khedive is very pleased to announced that it has submitted a proposal to the United Nations asking for the passing of a "Declaration of Rights." This declaration of rights builds on previous UN Resolutions and seeks to guarantee persons of Member States a certain degree of unalienable rights.

The Republic, however, respects the sovereignty of the Member States and has made the Declaration so much so it will be acceptable to all States across the political spectrum.

Khedive has recognized that getting the 108 delegates to support a Resolution before the full body can vote on it, is a daunting task - we have to the forums to advocate our resolution as it will undoubtedly better the lives of the persons of this world. We kindly ask UN members to look at the Declaration of Rights proposal.

Rights are a complex matter. By listing several rights, by exclusion, anything not listed isn't a right.

No, I care to disagree.

This Declaration simply states a list of rights, it does include all the rights that any person should have and it does claim to do this either.

For purposes of argument I will propose a more lengthy Universal Declaration of Rights (based on the RL document) and see if it is able to garner support.

Not necesarily, by that logic the rights not listed under the US Constituition would not be rights for the US Citizens, but the inclusion of the tenth amendment fixes any such conflict.

The tenth amendment is

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constituition, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people

Actually you're thinking of the Ninth Amendment:

The enumeration in this Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Constitutions, Declarations of Rights, etc., are designed to impress RULE OF LAW and RESTRICT THE POWER OF GOVERNMENT.

Exactly. Civil Rights is something certain nations disregard (knowingly and unknowingly) but it must be the job of the UN to endorse human rights most importantly those rights which are basic and unalienable.

Endorse Khedive's resolution and support the rights of all peoples.

We support the Declaration and will vote accordingly given the chance.
