What resolution?
According to resolutions at vote page thereis no resolution on banning dog eating.
As I assume that you mean proposal, explain to my satisfaction why we should ban the eating of one animal and not another and I might consider it.

They have a great point. Some places do not have the luxury to eat what they want or what you want them to eat. Unless YOU suppliment their diet, then maybe it shouldn't be a concern.

Dogs are considered a delicacy in parts of the world. It is no good to interfere with local traditions. BTW: Why is eating a dog worse than eating a cow?

I doubt that Chauvinism meant it was a resolution. Was it a resolution than he would not have to start talking about it here, would he :P
But mainly I wonder why dogs should have other rights then any other animal. It must be some secret vegie consipiracy to ban all meating. And if it isn't, that effect it will have.
No legal system would allow the injustice that the meat eaten by some cultures is illagal, and by others isn't. This resolution would be followed up quickly by banning other forms of meat too, and those cannot really be stopped without creating an obvious message of injustice in the world.
How would you like it if you can't have chicken anymore, and pork, and cow, just because the UN say so? If that was not your intention, close it as fast as you can because you are opening pandoras box.
Other than that we have no particular statement on whether banning eat meating on the world is better or worse. No meat eating would give the world the ability to sustain a lot of more humans on this planet. And I also presume that once you never eaten meat, you would not start complaining when you can't eat it too. For example, people who never have eaten dog, are not complaining that they can't eat it either. However I would hate to tell my population suddenly that they can't eat meat anymore. Gosh, crime numbers would go up increadably. It would by like that amercian alcohol ban all over again. Nah, looks like giving nothing then problems for us. So we have no opinion about this at the moment.

Why dogs? Why not gophers, or moles, or birthday cakes?

I already asked that.
Dogs are rarely eaten in the community of Gurthark, because most people consider them companion animals, and there is something of a taboo against eating potential companions. But then, the same applies to chickens, which Gurtharkians also often keep as companions. It's a matter of cultural preference.
We do see a reasonable argument for banning all meat-eating, or for banning the eating of animals above a certain level of intelligence. There is, in fact, a growing minority in Gurthark that is lobbying for the passage of such laws, although we do not have them at the present time.
However, outlawing dog-eating, without outlawing the eating (or killing for fur) of various other animals that are at least as intelligent as dogs--cats, pigs, dolphins and whales, donkeys, polecats, primates, some theorists even suggest octopi--is pure parochialism, with no reasonable foundation.
Gurthark opposes this proposal.

Allthough people of buik only eat poultry and fish, that is simply for ethic reasons.
If another country views chickens and cows as sacred, or as companion animals, and choose to eat dogs and ferrets on a regulor basis who are we to tell them they are wrong?

The issue of what should and should not be permitted as a food-stuff is tricky. Personally, I favour:
1) Laws against cannibalism
2) Laws against killing/eating endangered species
I'm also tempted to propose laws against killing/eating other creatures that rank high for intelligence, such as dolphins and great apes. As it happens, most great apes and many dolphins are endangered species anyway, so it's not really necessary. There's also a health reason not to eat great apes, and monkeys, which is that they're genetically close enough to humans for easy disease transfer; examples of this would include HIV and ebola. However, that would also rule out other more distantly related creatures such as poultry, from whom 'flu can cross over.
On the particular case of dogs, they are on about the same place on the intelligence scale as pigs, and hence it would be controversial, to say the least, to ban eating them on those grounds. Personally, I would choose never to eat them, but that's another matter. I don't really think it's a legitimate issue for the UN.
