The problem with crime is that there are really only two solutions:

Increase social spending. This has a 33% chance of lowering crime, a 33% chance of increasing crime, a 33% chance of doing absolutely nothing (just look at America's first real systematic welfare program, The Great Society, and how it raised crime rates by 400%) and a 100% chance of criminalizing the govenrment.

Destroy due process. This has a 50% chance of lowering crime, a 50% chance of significant civil disorder, and a 100% chance of criminalizing the government.

In other words, we will have to wait until we have the ability to perform neural reprogramming to make criminals non-violent to solve the crime problem. This is in the near future... in a few decades I bet. We already have some neural drugs, and they are only going to get better.

look at the state of california it has a record of prisoners so why do you think that they built alcatraz?

Listen, everyone (including Ranjers). DO NOT SPEAK UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Even if you are trying to be silly, please, this isn't the place for it. Alcatraz was built as a military prison.

Might we suggest our colleague worry about the situation his nation finds itself in, rather than meddling in the affairs of others.

You want to eliminate crime? Turn all your cities into prison colonies. Lock everyone away.

Do you have references for these statistics that you quote?

Haha...I think the 'statistics' are meant more to make a point. For once though, I agree with TGM...ain't no way to get rid of crime, just like there ain't no way to get rid of poverty (always will be poor people, and there always will be criminals).

"CRIME IS INCREASEING WE HAVE TO DO
SOMETHING ABOUT IT"

Crime is not increasing in Gurthark. For societies that are able to, we wholeheartedly recommend the policy that has worked so well for us:

1) Invest in social welfare and education
2) Allow police surveilance in public places (we respect individuals' privacy, but the public sphere is, after all, public)
3) Ban firearms

With just these measures, and without restrictive laws, excessive punishments, or an expensive huge police force, we have managed to keep crime entirely unheard-of in Gurthark.

Sincerely,

Crime is rampant in America because of the governments leniency with criminals. It baffles me how such a country can put someone to death for killing one person, but will give someone who kills ten people three meals a day and a place to live for the rest of their lives. The only way to truly combat crime is to deal with it like a child, by punishing swiftly and making your point known.
