The Holy Empire presents you with the Armed Society Act

14-10-2003, 02:56
Fellow members of the UN, I strongly urge you to accept this proposal, for the safety of all. Remember, an armed society is a well defended and polite society.

--
Whereas crime is indeed a problem not only within the mighty borders of the Holy Empire, but across this entire planet.

Whereas the first and most effective deterrant versus potential criminal is the fear of his chosen prey.

Whereas an armed society is a polite society.

Whereas it is the basic right of all people to protect themselves from those who would seek to do them harm.

We, the Holy Empire of Coffee Warlord, put forth the following:

1) Abolishment of restrictions on sales and ownership of handguns, rifles, shotguns, and automatic weapons.

2) A re-evalutation of self-defense laws, providing for the right of citizens to use lethal force in their defense.

3) Mandatory ownership of at least 1 firearm in every househould.

4) Abolishment of laws involving public carry of firearms. Guns are to be worn at the hip, or carried across the shoulder. Concealed carry permits shall be revoked. Guns should be proudly worn, not hidden.

Submitted for approval in the Year of the Coffee Bean.

Mandatory ownership of at least 1 firearm in every househould.

There are many many people in this world that should never be allowed within 10 miles of a firearm. This would be putting weapons into the hands of many untrustworthy citizens of all nations.

And should they fail to carry their granted weapon wisely, there will be millions of other gun carrying individuals to instruct them in their idiocy, and if necessary, remove them from the gene pool.

Then you would end up creating a government funded civil war between the peoples of the nations. People would be shooting each other at will simply because there is no law against it.

Perhaps.

I tend to think that, in the face of an opponent with an equally deadly weapon, fear of death will usually override a desire to kill. While the intelligence of people is indeed questionable, we all have at least some survival instinct in us.

And should they decide they maybe they are better, and use their weapon in an unwise fashion? We are simply proving Darwin's theories true. Those who are left will be the wiser, more intelligent folk, creating a better future for us all.

I have a better idea--let's NOT force people to own something whether they want to or not.

In some ways, gun ownership is like voting. People should be allowed to do it, but not obliged, because some people aren't willing or able to exercise the right responsibly, and I'd just as soon those people stay out of it.

Why anyone should be allowed to have a gun in today's world is beyond me.

If you live in the US, at least.

I don't think there is a single part of the Constitution that claims any man or woman has the right to bear arms.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Observe how in the real world the rate of violence and deaths is strongly correlated with the availability of guns.

A polite society is one where people learn to relate maturely with one another, not merely be nice to everyone because everyone could kill them instantly if offended.

A safe society is one which looks after its members and gently but firmly corrects those who disturb it, not one that is armed to the teeth where anyone is mortally threatened for stepping out of line. A safe society nurtures trust rather than destroy it.

A peaceful society is one where people are at peace with themselves and each other. It is not the same as the absence of violence based on that old chestnut "mutually assured destruction".

Therefore I do not support this idea.

May we all live in peace.

Those who carry and use weapons are in a position to cause great harm to themselves, their families and others. Accidental death, injury, and misuse of the weapons can only be prvented by thorough training and supervision. Law enforcement and hunters are all we can affordably handle this way. Imagine the cost of supervising the firearms safety of every citizen!

You are an idiot. The first clause states the rationale of the Founders, but that fails to change the fact that the second part grants individuals the right to keep and bear and arms.
