UN proposal: No WAR until a nation is one month old

11-10-2003, 05:10
UNSC News-broadcast
UNSC solar date 10:10:03

UNSC naval command;
I am proposing a law forbidding naions younger than one month to go to war, not only does this prevent accidental Godmodding (which I have done unintentionally) this also allows wars to be an even fight.

United Factions fully supports this! This also allows for newbies to watch the other nations RP and learn how to RP right!

The TCF supports UNSC's proposal. I think this will help all those n00bs a lot.

11-10-2003, 05:15
Yes, I should have the whole AoAN support this.
11-10-2003, 05:15
This could be a problem to nations which are more active than others. For instance, a nation who is active every day would get kind of bored without the ability to get involved in world conflicts.

11-10-2003, 05:19
Yes. UNSC is right, TKS. By just watching conflicts from the sidelines, they don't put themselves in any danger and will also learn to RP reasonably.
11-10-2003, 05:20
Well, I suppose I can understand that, what with power hungry n00bs who end up Godmodding an army bigger than their national pop.
11-10-2003, 05:22
That is exactly why we have this proposal, so they can learn and not be involved and have to be obliterated for godmodding. With this proposal, the noobs can't attack and can't be attacked. They can still share their bright ideas, though.
11-10-2003, 05:24
Well, I suppose it would work out well in the long run. If it goes, it'll get the KoRT Sovjet's vote.

You do realize that UN aren't suppose to effect game play? Also, isn't this REALLY overstepping the UN's bounds and completely running over a little thing called NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY? :!:

The UN is supposed to have a determining effect on gameplay, otherwise it would make no sense to have.

The UN is the world's governing body. It proposes and votes on resolutions, which are then binding on all member nations.

POINT OF ORDER

Mr. Chairman, I make a point of order that this proposal would cause a change in game mechanics and thereby violates UN rules.

Game Mechanics
"We should make it so that all UN Members can vote on proposals before they reach the floor", "We should be able to vote on 2 proposals at once", "The UN should create <multinational organisation>". All of these proposals propose changes to the Game Mechanics governing the running of NationStates.
I cannot stress this enough, You Cannot Play God Here. Your proposal may well be a useful change to the way the game works, and a few changes to the game (ejection of nations from regions, proposal search function) had their genesis in proposals. The bottom line is that they were not adopted because of the successful passage of a proposal, and neither will your suggestion be.

However, since your proposal has not yet been submitted, I withhold my point of order.

Something that would work better than a UN proposal that people say will disrupt game mechanics, is to perhaps have a few veteran NS players set up a mock war that could be stickied and new players could study. Just a thought.

12-10-2003, 05:40
Speaking from a newbie's point of view, something like what The KoRT Sovjet proposed would be more informational than disallowing all newbies to wage war until they reach a certain point. Some people are able to pick up games like these much faster than others, and forcing them onto a learning curve chosen to cater to retards will only frustrate them and make them want to quit playing. I know that I am not planning to wage war, or tempt one upon myself until I get a better feel for this game, but I don't think that I'll need a whole month to understand the mechanics. At least not if I study the forums and all the stickys.

Should we reduce the number in the peace period? Or add a mandatory Class for RPing? Or maybe both?

(End Transmission)
12-10-2003, 21:42
I don't think you should mandate anything. Understand that newbies (like me) making mistakes at the beginning and learning from them would be more helpful than forcefeeding them a simplified version of the game where they are unable to gain any skillz. And if a newbie starts griefing, or godmodding, then either campaign for their deletion or just ignore them. If they play, then they should be subject to no more or less of the rules than any other player. And since this is a text-based RP game, where you control what happens to your country, not anyone else, then it shouldn't matter what newbies do around you, if you chose not to acknowledge their presence.
12-10-2003, 21:49
There are different brands of new players that come in. Some, like myself, can be brand new and still get the rules of play down quick and become a fairly good RPer. Others tend to come in thinking that because they selected "The Empire of" that they are automaticly superior to everyone. Everyone goes at there own rate, hence why the sticky threads exist.

Look, If you are a nation state then as soon as your state is born you should have the right to defend that state.
Preventing states from wars for one month after birth is sheer lunacy.
If you move into a new house are you saying that all burglars have a one month amnesty?
I dont think so.
Bother my property(state) or family(civs) and ill knock your block clean off.
