Should Slavery on Nationstates be legalised?

Read this carefully before voicing your opinion:

I own a slave market and exotic pet shop and have had countless demands to shut down the slave trade functions. I personally think that this wrong and the laws of a country should let the ruler do what they want. I hope that my problem will be resolved through the UN and that you will voice your opinions as they are all valued.

Whenever I hear someone argueing for slavery, I wish, he would live as a slave. Slavery is inhumane and violates the universal rights bill. Since you are UM member, you can eighter close the slave market down or resign from UN. I would strongly suggest the first option!

I agree to Rejistanias oppinion. As a UN member you have to stop slavery (see the "End Slavery" resolution) or leave the UN.
And there are lots of nations which would like to test their latest state-of-the-art weaponary (of course, all ICly  ) and are still looking for a testdummy.

I do not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

If you don't want to obey the most fundamental resolutions, then get out. I don't undrestand some NS players: moaning about how such a resolution infringes on sovereignty. What's the UN for, passing: "Countries have the right to be countries" resolutions? Please, just get out if you're not satisfied.

I hope that my opinions will reflect on you as well so that you will be able to see things from my side of things

I think Nuremburg disposed of the idea that "national sovereignty" allows a ruler to do something like operating a "slave market and exotic pet shop".

And just how do y'all reckon that slavery's "inhumane".

Ya gotta take care of yer investments, right? So why'd ya go and treat one bad? Treat'em right and take care of 'em and they makes it more worth your while to have 'em.

And b'fore any of y'all go gettin' any ideas, Alabammy done away with slavery a long time ago. Alrighty then?

all humans are equal
the dignity of men is unimpeachable

the first two of the base laws of the Federal Repuplic of Germany and, i think, part of the international human rights which the UN tries to protect;
i think this says enough to make slavery illegal in any UN nation (and you still have to respect the "End Slavery" resolution!); wether the slaves are treaten "bad" or "well"

(please, excuse my bad english; i'm a little bit tired right now)

This is such a non-issue for a U.N. member nation. Simply by reading the past proposals that have been adopted and ratified, you should be able to figure out that the U.N. is hostile territory for nations like yours.

As a UN member nation, you are in extreme violation of a previous UN resolution if you permit slavery in your nation.

If your countries policies are very different from the UN's mandate, can you be kicked out of the UN? If you allow slavery, there is no reason you should be in the UN. You are going against everything that the UN stands for.

Why not? All you have to do is change a word here and there and you already have it.

(technically, we're all like slaves to the UN anyway)

Shame on you for wanting to legalize slavery.

yes it should be legalized.

Also if he joined the U.N. after the slavery resolution was passed he doesnt have to follow it.

From the UN main page: "The UN is the world's governing body. Membership is voluntary, but all member nations must abide by UN rules."

From the UN FAQ: "Your nation can join the UN, but it's not compulsory. As a non-member, you are unaffected by any UN decisions. So if you're happy looking after your nation and don't want to dabble in international politics, don't join up."

"The UN is your chance to mold the rest of the world to your vision, by voting for resolutions you like and scuttling the rest. However, it's a double-edged sword, because your nation will also be affected by any resolutions that pass. (You can't just obey the resolutions you like and ignore the rest, like real nations do.)"

Fairly self-explanatory, I think. If you join the UN, you gain the privilege of voting on resolutions on the table, but a condition of this is that you *MUST* follow all resolutions that pass or have been passed. "Your nation can join the UN, but it's not compulsory." If you don't want to follow the UN rules, you *DO NOT* have to join. Anyone who says that they shouldn't have to follow such and such a resolution should have read over the conditions of membership a little better. And regarding this madness about not having to follow resolutions which were passed before your nation joined, that is utter foolishness. All the resolutions ever passed can be read at the leisure of any nation, both before and after they join. If they want to do something forbidden by a resolution, they should not join, resign if they already have joined or you can always write up a resolution of your own to try to change the rules to better suit your wishes.

There is, quite frankly, nothing else to be said on this issue.

I have decided to set an example to the other countries seeing as i am a UN member and close down the slave market, however i am still keeping the exotic pets

As far as I know, there has yet to be a UN resolution concerning exotic pets. So that's fine.
