Please endorse the following UN Proposal. Thanks in advance.

Description: Assault weapons have no impact on personal security. Allowing them to be bought and sold freely only gets them into the hands of criminals easier. Only military should have assault weapons.

This proposal, when passed, will ban assault weapons on all member countries, making our cities safer places.

*blink blink* I think I am lost mayhaps. Pray tell, where is the winery? Oh and perhaps the assault weapons are banned for the populace, and not for ye olde government. Perhaps ye olde government becomes ye olde police state. Oh perchance the people try to overthrow said evil government (police state = evil, sad but true), but bless their little hearts their itsy bitsy hand guns, hunting rifles, and toasted marshmallows are no match for a heartless police state oppression force equipped with all the nice cuddly mp5's and other assault weapons that the poor wittle populace can not have. Up the creak, lost the paddle, on the horse, where's the saddle? Sounds weird, but maybe assault weapons not as bad as one might stink? I mean, think.

Assault rifles are required property in Eli and we will shoot anyone that tries to change that law. :evil:

If there is a police state (evil government) that opresses its people, you can be SURE that they WILL ban a whole lot of things, INCLUDING weapons, assault weapons or otherwise - regardless of whether this resolution exists or not.

So, your police state argument is meaningless.

The purpose of this resolution is to take assault weapons away from criminals and trigger happy people. People don't need assault weapons to protect themselves. And if you need to take up arms against your own government, then you have bigger problems than the guns.

The problem here, is that it is already illegal in many nations to commit a crime with a weapon, and even more criminal to commit a crime with an assault weapon. Apparently, you're having problems with crimes committed by such people. The solution isn't to impose on the UN to solve your problems, as even if every nation in the world (UN or no) banned assault weapons for their populace, criminals would still be able to obtain them. So, your proposal is ineffective, and short-sighted.
