SDI?
Has no one created an SDI system yet?
I believe that this should be proposed to the UN as a gigantic research project. If enough nations took part we could have huge success!
Imagine a world free from godmodders who say they just nuked your nation and you can simply say:
"Sorry, SDI"

SDI stands for Strategic Defense Initiative. Essentially, it is a system capable of effectively defending against nuclear missile attacks, usually envisioned as using a combination of satellite early-warning and ground-based antimissile interceptors.
The chief importance of a functional SDI system is that it breaks down the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) scenario. A nation protected by SDI no longer fears being destroyed by nuclear attack, and as such is able to act as though it were the only nation in the world possessing nuclear weapons (at least when dealing with nations that do not also have SDI).
As for implementing an SDI system in the NSUN, in order to make it work politically, it would need to extend to protect ALL of the NSUN members.
It could be implemented alongside a proposal that all onmce it is created all SDI nations disarm their nuclear weapons since they obviously won't need them.
All nations that cannot afford it should then be forcably disarmed (if they are that poor why do they have nukes anyway? Strip them of their useless weapons without fear of getting nuked yourself)
It would be nice if a leading member of the UN could propose this.
The problem with SDI is it does away with the concept of "mutually assured destruction." This creates a new "arms race." Now countries will begin trying to develop missle systems that can get around the missle defense system. Once one country develops an advanced missle that can get pass the SDI system, oher countries will have to develop one. This will necessitate an increase in defense budgets. And, as soon as one missle can get past the SDI system, the system is not outmoded.
