Repeal the Axis of Evil

01-10-2003, 04:50
The very first U.N. Resolution, approved by just two Nations, in that Day's Minuscule international Body, is today an Embarrassment to this Modern and August Forum of Nations. We, the Senate and People of Socratonesia, call for its Repeal.

We speak, of course, of the Resolution entitled in terms Crude and Propagandistic, "Fight the Axis of Evil" -- words which are Lies and Worse, words which perpetuate Fear and Terror among Nations. In a Time when each Nation has greater Problems, from Crime to Economic Duress to the Public Health, the incitement of baseless Rumors of War is Treacherous indeed.

Read this Mockery of a Resolution here -- a Relic of By-gone Days where Nation played Terrorist to the Nations -- and see for Yourselves: http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=UN_past_resolutions

The costs of Military Build-up are Immense, to the Economies of the World and to our Polities and Peoples as well. To the Economist, the creation of Weapons beyond reasonable Bound is a Money-Pit, into which Wealth is sunk never to be Recover'd. (True, a Mothball'd War-ship may become a Millionaire Eccentric's Yacht; yet Millionaire Eccentrics may commission their Own Yachts.) To the True Lover of his Country, the beating of War-drums and the Clinking of Coin into the hand of the Arms-Merchant is ever accompanied by the wailing of Babies unprovided-for.

The Funds expended upon a single Missile might be diverted within the Public Sphere of a Liberal or Socialist Nation to pay for Schools or Hospitals, or in a Conservative or Libertarian one returned to the Economy as a Tax-Cut. Even the Fashions of costum'd and perfum'd Kings and Queens are better Serv'd to pronounce Faires and flowery (and Expensive) Royal Weddings, than to add a crude and clanking Main Battle Tank to an already Hideously Unneeded Armory.

We of Socratonesia do not ask that all Nations set down Arms forever, as if to Join in a Peaceable Song of Fluttery Love and Affection. We are not Dimwits. We simply Ask, in our Resolution "Repeal the Axis of Evil", that the United Nations Itself set aside ridiculous Fears and the Language of Ignorant War-Propaganda, and let us all stand down from an uncalled-for Escalation of Arms.

Our Proposed Resolution, which stands now before the Delegates awaiting Approval, is brief and Succinct. It reads as follows:

Description: WHEREAS the Doctrine of the "Axis of Evil" has been found Fraudulent and Lacking as an interpretation of the State of the World; and

WHEREAS the Build-up of excessive Armament is a Burden to the world's Economies, which withdraws funds from both the Private Sphere of Business and the Tax-payer, as well as from more productive Government Projects, and channels them into the creation of surplus Tools of Destruction;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT:

The United Nations Resolution "Fight the Axis of Evil" shall be Repealed and Rescinded in its Entirety.

Brother and Sister Nations, the People of Socratonesia request your Support for this Resolution. Delegates, we ask your Approval that it may go before the Nations Assembled to demonstrate that the U.N. of Today is better than it once Was.

LUCKY you're not saying that, as the nation of Beable has recently developed pointed stick technology, and we certainly won't be putting THEM down any time soon! FEAR THE POINTY STICKS OF BEABLE!

We are not Dimwits.

We are! OOPS WHAT A GIVEAWAY!

We endorse this proposal and hope that it reaches a general UN vote soon. In fact we hope that ANYTHING reaches a general UN vote soon! This "not voting" is giving us hives. Except for more rubbish like "The Bill Of No Rights", we would be very happy if garbage like that never reached the voting stage again.

We, on the other hand, have REAL POLE ARMS such as PIKES and HALBERDS and TRIDENTS!

So, the Bill of No Rights was rubbish, eh?

The Kingdom of Schim supports the repeal of the "Fight the Axis of Evil" resolution. Especially since the Axis of Evil is not defined in the resolution.

Our Proposal appears to have been Remov'd from the List under Consideration, without Comment or Notice. We are Proposing it Anew, and shall continue to Do So unless Inform'd Specifically of a reason Why Not.

We support the repeal of said proposal, and have it on very good authority that our regions delegate will endorse the proposal in favour of a repeal.

We, the state of TedHughes, think the Bill of No Rights was rubbish. And we have sharp tongue technology... the only edged tools that grow keener with constant use, so don't mess with us.

[ooc: The moderators have ruled that you can't repeal previously adopted resolutions. Although I disagree with this ruling, it's best to abide by it. Furthermore, I think they're working on a separate way to repeal.]

Which will hopefully be in effect soon.

I fail to the berring that has to do with anything. Unless we, or someone else, define this "Axis of Evil" then it is meaningless.

I'm going to lock this topic because it is not possible to repeal resolutions. This keeps coming up time and time again. Please stop trying to repeal resolutions. They just get deleted by the Game Mods.
