Ammend the Gay Rights Resolution

16-09-2003, 01:38
Our new proposal, named "Ammend Gay Rights Resolution," has been submitted for the sole purpose of preventing the U.N. from forcing nations to support a measure they may not approve of; specifically, requiring that members endorse gay marriages. This proposal does not seek to overthrow the resolution: an end to discrimination is all fine and good. I simply seek to preserve our nations' right to self government. I have categorized it as a political stability resolution because it seeks to increase the stability and autonomy of local governments, though it does not restrict civil rights. Your comments would be appreciated, but please read the proposal itself before posting anything.

I understand the need for self government, but I'm sure that as nations gradually allow gay marriages in their own countries the issue will cross into the UN. Its just not time yet. Obviously I'm very pro-gay rights, but I understand that some are not that tolerant yet.

After all, we must respect the rights of those gay-bashing neanderthals too, I guess...

I am not sure how I'll vote for this...The Empire of Flamazon is a Communist, Catholic nation that is very liberal. We allready allow gay marriages...after all they don't hurt anyone and it's sure better than marrying someone with a dick just because your mom wants you to no? Or getting a divorce later due to an alcoholic and abusive husband. However, their are regions where the people are VERY religious and will for certain not allow this. If anyone wants to leave their over conservative region...GO TO THE REGION "SLAVYANSKIY CAYUZ"!!! It is Russian for Slavic Union. :D

We in the Holy Empire of Pantocratoria fully support the United Nations proposal to protect the rights of our homosexual subjects, however, the Catholic faith which all loyal Pantocratorian subjects holds so dear forbids homosexual marriages. For this reason, the Imperial Government has passed laws which explicitly forbid homosexual marriage, but supports in all other respects the full and equal rights of its homosexual subjects. We are not sure that the existing UN resolution must be ammended, because the Imperial Government feels that the existing resolution is vague enough to allow its policy against homosexual marriages, but would support any clarification of the resolution which made explicit the Imperial Government's position.

OOC: I was presented with an issue on marriage which allowed me to decide for or against gay marriages some time ago, despite being a UN member, so I'm presuming that the system either doesn't eliminate this kind of issues, or I am in fact in compliance with the resolution. Am I right, or has my psychotic dictatorship violated a UN resolution?

I can't support this resolution on three fronts.

1) Learn to spell amend!
2) You can't repeal any UN resolutions that have passed.
3) This will just be deleted as soon as a game mod notices it.

Peace,
Stephanie.

I also thought that this was simply a national issue, and not a UN resolution.

Number one, they should say this on the FAQ. In fact, it did get deleted. Number two, it's stupid to prohibit the repealment of resolutions already passed. The real U.N. can do this. Number three, thanks for insulting my spelling. You could be a little less obvious pointing out that you think I'm and idiot.

[ooc: I think the mods are going to issue a final ruling on this soon. However, in the meantime it's probably best to avoid amending or repealing previous proposals.]

Yeah, this sort of thing should be a national issue, but there is a UN resolution about it, because the UN members don't understand the bounds of the UN  (yes I know, love it or leave it :? ).

The Holy Empire of Isochronous is a huge, devout nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 383 million are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, moralistic, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Commerce, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 34%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.

Political activists are routinely executed, tourists from around the world come to visit the country's famous rainforests, euthanasia is illegal, and the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Isochronous's national animal is the shark, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the crown.

Isochronous is ranked 5th in the region and 14,721st in the world for Rudest Citizens.

Once again I find myself repeating... myself.... erm... anyways, as long as you are in the UN you have to obey the resolutions.
