I think it is because some people are too close minded (and enjoy their free music too much) to realize that they are committing outright theft. They are pirates- in the strictest sense of the word. Can everyone be rich? Come on now, use your imagination. What would happen if everyone worked their butts off in every industry? Would everyone be rich? No. Does that mean all rich people are bad? Billy Graham is one of the richest people in the U.S. Is he bad? Does that mean all poor people are lazy? Mother Teresa was poor. Was she lazy? No.
We owe our (American) Economy to those who have worked hard, whether they are rich or not. I have in no way belittled the ones who work, but aren't always paid in full. That is life. I know it sounds harsh, but maybe you should be removing you rose colored glasses by now. Not everyone can be rich. That doesn't mean we should punish everyone who is.

I think this cynicism is based on a refusal to look at both sides of the issue. There must be a better of approaching this, then to accept this position at face value, just because the industry says so.
