In all due fairness, shouldn't we have a memorial day for John Ritter too?

This is.... *mumbles*

People die. These people gave the U.S. and other english peaking countries a source of entertainment. In what other way did they help us? Did they head some international commity to end AIDS or Child slavery?

You belittle those who have been honored with their own memorial day by givng them out left and right to those who may not have deserved it. What Aboue Mother Teresa? Where is her internationl Memorial Day? Why doesn't Ghandi have one for the NS UN? And Jimmy Carter?

Come on people. I can see you must have big hearts, but you need to think about it more. What else did they do to earn such an honor but die and get coverage for it?

Being famous, good at acting, or the guitar is no reason to be eternally honored like this. Now if you are going to make an Internationla day for someone who really deserves it, then contact me, and I'll endorse it.

I've always wondered why nobody tries to make an IC memorial proposal.

IC?

In Character...for instance, memorializing some NationStates national leader that was assassinated in the International Incidents forum.

The question posed about paying trribute to john ritter brought to mind the fact that warren zevon died a week or so ago, so lets throw one in their for him too.

seriously though, of those three johnny cash does deserve a day of observance over all others. He took the country world by storm, , so much so that by the 1970's he was doing stuff above and beyond what country radio was willing to play. He tied country and rock in such a way that it didn't offend the masses.

His resurgence in the 1990's was due in part to the fact that country music had taken such a dramatic turn, that many thought he was too old to be hip. Then came Rick Rubin to the rescue, the producer know more for his Beastie Boys hits than for one who would give Johnny Cash a chance to record some of his most diverse and heartouching material to date.

With the American Recordings records Johnny Cash was able to pay tribute to the many bands that over time have paid tribute to him. This included his covers of Soundgarden, ,Tom Waits, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails' songs.

The life and times of Johnny Cash is a deserved day of observance for all music fans across the Globe.

Country Music has been greatly discouraged in Korunida, due to the proven brain damage it inflicts on its vitims... I mean listeners.

That which you said is true comrade, I don't really know much about Johnny Cash hadn't even heard of him and although I loved John Ritter they were only entertainers. I PROPOSE that we act and make a memmorial day for Mother Theresa, she was a kind and gentle lady who gave, not sacraficed her entire life to help others. She devoted her time and effort to those who were in unfortunate situations and in desperate need of help. Whether you are Catholic or not it should not matter, for regardless of religion I am sure that we all agree that no matter what the person, if he or she is kind and considerate they deserve an important reckognition. Shall we try to have this passed by the United Nations? Who would be willing to write the proposal? In any case, if it is not passed would you all be interested in forming an "organization" that would be similar to the U.N. and that would allow us all to work together for the common good? I personally believe that we as leaders of nations and regions have the obligation to help contribute to world peace. It might be a reality if we all cooperate.! :D If you support this or for any reason wish to contact me just post or more surely send me a telegram as sometimes these posts get lost. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day! I am Marina Vladiovna Romanova, Empress of Flamazon currently situated in the region Slavyanskiy Cayuz. :)

Mother T was hardly as humanitarian as she has been made out to be:

I read it but who said that and how can you guarantee that it is true? I know that this may sound wrong in the sense that what "the people" say isn't always right but most people seem to agree that she was a caricative soul. I would appreciate more feedback be it negative or positive but everyone is entitled to their own opinion right? I am really very enthusiastic about forming a union. Is anyone interested? Oh and by the way about Mother Theresa, she may have had all that money but did you ever see her wearing gold-embroidered clothing or any other material luxuries? No, this might be because she chose to distribute the money to many different hospices, hospitals, shelters, etc.

Does Johnny Cash Day really fall within the top priorities of the United Nations, though? Shouldn't this be just a national day reserved for nations which choose to participate?

First, I would just like to point out the obvious: that country music is an abomination to the senses and an afront to artistic decency!

But hey, taste is personal so what the heck do I know.

But on further review of the number of dead people who have contributed to the arts and general enjoyment of life, I have determined that good cases could be made for enough people who have passed on that it would be possible to make every day of the year a memorial day several times over. The resulting requirements for special events, moment of silence, speeches etc would put such a drain on public funds and so impact productivity that it would seriously damage my economy.

And on the matters of personal taste, if I were to start honoring country music stars, there is a small but vocal minority that would also want me to comemorate certain dead rap artists... and frankly that thought is far to horrible to contemplate.

As such, I think that besides a nice public testimonial at the actual time of death that following that I will allow my citizens to remember their favorite artists in their own way and out of their own pockets.

Jimmy Carter? What the hell? How could you even consider a holiday, besides "Shame Day", for this worst president in the history of the United States?
