Survey of bad resolutions
In a possible effort to write a "repeal" resolution, I'd like to hear views on bad resolutions.
Anyone interested can nominate resolutions that should be repealed, with a short and clear reason why. (ie: Not within the mandate of the UN etc.)
Thanks.
Wolfish.
Keep The World Disease-Free!
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.
Category: Human Rights Strength: Significant Proposed by: Fallopian Tube
Description: While the hygiene standards of the world has certainly improved in the last 100 years, there is more to be done. Every citizen in every land should have the right to: At least one toilet in their house; At least one washbasin in their house; At least one of either a bathtub or a shower; in order to comply with hygiene standards and prolong life expectancy. Furthermore, vaccinations should be made available to the public, although they don't have to be mandatory. Vaccinations against the big diseases such as: Malaria, typhoid, rubella, cholera, polio, et al. With the backing of the UN, we can give even our poorest inhabitants a nice, clean, healthy life.

We the People's Republic Of Amyth think this is an absurd resolution. The third world countries of the world have better, more effecient things to do than install toilets, and showers in every house. We ourselves would like to concentrate on improving general living conditions, garbage collection, maybe even install a sewer system before we started installing toilets in every house. We also feel that perhaps in the western countries, who obvoiusly proposed this to keep us third world countries down, there are already these ammenties in every house.

I think that only applies to UN members. If a third world country is in the UN, they can get the help described in that resolution.
these are the most absurd resolutions ive ever seen. Dont eat fast food?? What are you a freakin dictator? Who died and made you God? I mean come on. I agree with the 3rd world country. My country is far from 3rd world, but I can see their arguement as very valid. How about the country that provides this resolution can pay for the enforcement of it. I as a member nation of the UN, choose to not enforce this resolution in any way shape or form. If any nation henceforth tries to impose this upon us, we shall consider it an act of hostility.

Oh, so the UN is paying for all of this?

Hon. Government of Aviationia,
If you mean the resolution posted above in this thread, we fail to see where it mentions fast food. Further, we would like to point out that in NationStates the decisions of the UN are BINDING. You are a member of the UN; this resolution was passed; therefore, you have NO CHOICE but to enforce it. National laws are implemented automatically to bring you in compliance with a resolution the minute it is passed. The only thing you can do is resign from the United Nations. In the Real World, of course, it does not work this way; but read over the game manual -- this is certainly not the Real World UN.

My views on bad resolutions? Well, first I think you can find at least one person per resolution that thinks it's bad. It's all a matter of opinion. However I do think that many resolutions we have now are very... idealist. They're pretty unfeasable as written. I often wonder where the money comes from. I often wonder if they have ANY effect on the game. Somehow I don't think they do.
Sure I'd like to see resolutions I don't like repealed or changed as much as the next person, but good luck doing it. If you think the resolutions on NationStates are so bad, what you should do are create some that are better. As I said, most of these don't really have much effect on the game. Create one that will and everyone will feel a little better about the UN.
Personally, I liked Common Sense 2. I think it was a good thing for the UN. But I know a lot of people don't agree with me.
Anacanapuna agreed with Common Sense II.
By defeating that resolution, our Government has suffered a crippling rush of frivilous law suits and the Justice System is clogged and therefore making it difficult to get serious issues before the courts.
Not to mention taking far longer to provide our citizens with due process.
And man is it expensive on our tax paying people.

At this time Wolfish we can't repeal any passed UN resolutions. They will simply be deleted. Unless you can think of a clever way to not use words like repeal or amend. This is a subject that the mods are discussing on possible solutions right now. Although as of yet, we have nothing tangible. Therefore I would put off trying to repeal any thing until there is some sort of resolution by the mods on how to deal with this issue.
Thank You.

You should realize that Common Sense Act II, which we strongly opposed, was adopted.
