CLEAN SLATE RESOLUTION

Please endorse the Clean Slate Resolution which will repeal every resolution passed since the inception of the (NationStates) UN.

In the recent days many of our members have departed or have been voicing loudly their gripes with the many trivial resolutions that the UN has passed.

Now there is an opportunity to take the power back and revamp our organizational goals.

Even though there is no such thing as a repeal for NS UN resolutions, you've got my vote. There should be such a procedure.

I think when people repeal resolutions.. it's more of a protest thing then any thing else. I could be wrong though. However that is how I view it.

Peace,
Stephanie.

Of course you can repeal NSUN resolutions! Why couldn't you? What you can't do is delete previous resolutions. You can, however, nullify them.

I would agree with that.

For RP-purposes, yes. Looking at Nation statistics, no.

When a resolution is passed, all that is done is that the stated effect is applied to all UN members nations. This is essentially a manipulation of their nation's statistics. Since there are no opposite manipulations for a bunch of effects (for instance, there's no "Social Injustice" or "Trade Limitations") those effects cannot be undone with the current system.

For instance, a resolution passed called "Required Basic Healthcare". Its effect "Social Justice, Strong" was subsequently applied to all UN member states. Shortly thereafter, another resolution passed, called "'RBH' Replacement'". While the effect of this resolution was also "Social Justice, Strong", in the flavour text it claimed to essentially water down the "Required Basic Healthcare" resolution (a repeal followed by a replacement of something less strict). For RP purposes it did, one could simply claim it does, play ones RP game accordingly, and be done with it. However, in the nation statistics this is not what happened. Please remember that the text is essentially just flavor text, while the effect is what gets applied. Statistics-wise, the same "Social Justice" effect was applied a second time, DOUBLING the effect of the previous resolution instead of reducing it.

For the correct effect to have been applied, that resolution would've needed to be a "Social Injustice, Mild", which doesn't exist in this game. To make matters even more interesting, the repeal/substitution mechanism "'RBH' Replacement" claimed to perform should've only applied to those UN members who had the previous resolution applied to them, and all others should've had a "Social Justice, Mild" applied to them. None of this is even remotely implemented.

There's currently a thread in Technical about the UN mechanism.

Why not just "amend" them? If you nullify them, that nullifies everything that happened in the UN.

Exactly, hence the "Clean Slate." Quite revolutionary, don't you think?

No.... I think it defeats the purpose of the UN.
