The right to own a sword is not a human right. And what keeps the swords from falling into criminal hands?
04-09-2003, 00:17
What the hell will criminals do with them? Oonamahambra's citizens are allowed to have handguns. Handgun. Sword. What's the serious HARM of having swords? Someone swings it at you? Duck and run for your life. It's not like a gun. I'm not sure to laugh at this or support it because anyone that would ban swords is an idiot. I'm paralyzed by indecision.

Hey, in Japan, after they abolished guns, a janitor in an Osaka middle school took a sword and killed like a dozen kids before he got jumped by some of the older kids.

I fully support this proposal and hope one day to see it implemented in all member nations!

I see no harm in this...in Blamgolia, many have martial training in both firearms and melee weapons, and are taught a strong respect for both. Needless to say, the crime rate is fairly low in Blamgolia.

You fool, thousands of people have died by the sword. The knights/Romans etc. didn't all use it for no reason.

It doesn't matter if it is swords, guns or WMD's the point is they are all still weapons and to make them compulsory is on the very brink of insanity.

By all means give them the right if they so wish to, but do not make it compulsory for people to do so

We at the People's Republic Of Amyth will never tolerate having our citizens carry any weapon. We do however have mandatory cell phone laws, perhaps if you want the citizens of the world to be forced to carry something you could make it something useful? The cell phones must bear the picture of our glorious leader, and be individually signed.

I don't see the point in this resolution.

If you read the wording of the proposition, ir makes sword owning compulsory. Do we want a society where EVERYONE MUST carry a blade in public?

They used swords becuase they had nothign better. If I had a time machine, Id go back in time to the middle ages with a few M60s, a coupla AKs, a handfull of Armalite varients, and a few grenade launcers. I would be god of all.

Until you ran out of ammo . But really, why make sword owning compulsory? People can buy swords for display, and non-violent use. But, with all weapons in my nation, they must be 21 or over, have no criminal record, and must be free of mental illness that could induce violence (Including severe depression). But COMPLUSORY? Well, I better just kill a bunch of citizens right now! Yeah, the muggers deserve them so much. We can pass this proposal, and talk about how great it is while people with short swords impale bystanders. And what about Quakers, and other non-violent religons or groups? This is stupid. Incredibly stupid. If you want self defense, people can buy their own weapons. Not waste my nations money on it.

Did you read the proposal? He wants everyone should be forced to own weapons!

We consider it appropriate to introduce swords as a compulsory accessory for the cosmopolitan global citizen.

It should be a basic human right to own a sword.

Swords require more skill to use effectively than guns, and thus, they shall require the citizen to spend many hours practicing and perfecting their sword technique for the purpose of self defence and showmanship.

The mass ownership of swords would mark an era in global co-operation in combat sports, death and destruction. Please, pass this resolution to make the last real unfullfilled human right - yes, the right to own a sword - come true.

Wow. I didn't expect THAT. I'll be totally honest with you all. I got as far as 'please endorse the right to own sword' before I cracked up and responded. Please. This guy isn't even serious. That's too big a load of bullshit for it to be anything other then a joke. Why bother to risk my wrath in calling me a fool over THIS?

I'm not even going to give 'You fool, thousands of people have died by the sword. The knights/Romans etc. didn't all use it for no reason.' the benefit of an answer.
