Since a UN proposal to confirm John Ashcroft as a horse's ass has been submitted, I felt it only just to put in a Conservative counter proposal: "John Ashcroft Is A Hero" This proposal will acknowledge his lifelong goal of bringing the truth to light and seeing that justice is served. But beyond anything, it is just fair play to counter the Anti-Ashcroft proposal.

For those who don't know, John Ashcroft is the current US Attorney General.

What makes this cocksucker a hero?

I believe he's a just and honest man, though I don't know if that reaches the level of "Hero." As for PLO, what makes him a horse's ass?

Interestingly, then-Senator Ashcroft sponsored Internet privacy acts and condemned the Orwellian tactics of FBI compilation, decryption, and surveillance of personal communications, etc. Take a look at this statement where he wrote about the dangers of the government attacking the privacy of computer communications.

Sometimes, I can hardly believe the Attorney General is the same person as the Senator who introduced the "E-Privacy" bill to relax crypto-software controls and wrote "The state's interest in effective crime-fighting should never vitiate the citizens' Bill of Rights."

Ashcroft is also to the Right (if such a thing exists) of the National Rifle Association when it comes to Gun Control. His first Pro-Gun act as Attorney General was to declare that Within 24 hours of a purchase and background check All documents pertaining to that person will be destroyed by the Jusitice Department, thereby rendering the government completely unaware of who has a gun and what type of gun that is.

The brain is an organ in the your head, which allows you to percieve the world around you. But more than that, if you exercise it, it can actually be used to form independent thought, and permit you to make educated opinions based on logic (common sense) and the information you have at your disposal. Don't echo what a bunch of "so called" experts tell you is reality. Stop for a minute, think "why?" and "how?" and come up with something that's practical and realistic.
Heinlein put it best: "What are the Facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell." avoid opinion, care not what neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history" -what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the Facts!"

Facts can't be based on opinions by definition - facts either are true or false statements. There may be false facts, and there may be selective choice of facts presented. There cannot be, to paraphrase, "facts based on personal opinion".

There is significant bias in Moore's "documentaries." In fact, no reasonable person can conclude objectivity from his pieces. There is the obvious possibility that certain statistics and facts are selectively taken.

But, on the other hand, where's the counterargument. Indeed, where are the facts? Biased or not, Moore indeed provided statements of fact. To dispute them, they must be proven false, or a counterargument of fact raised. Where is that counterargument? There's certainly a lot of rhetoric and exhortations for "logic" when there hasn't been credible information provided to disprove the given assertions.

And there sure have been even more inflammatory opinions issued on part of the OP. So, perhaps the OP could take a bit of his own advice. Provide the factual counterargument in favor of the A.G., and perhaps a credible debate could be started upon merits rather than ideological rhetoric and ad hominem attacks.

I don't think, as some do, that Ashcroft is a racist, or even a genuinely bad man. However, I do believe that since he became Attorney General, he has done more harm than good.

The US is a police state. There was a series of adverts trying to show the freedom in the US. One showed a supposedly alternative US where a man asks for a banned book and is taken away for questioning. THe voiceover said: "Freedom. Cherish it". However, the FBI now can seize book sales. Ironic?
I think it was reported in the TES that a Muslim travelling to America shortly after 9/11 was stopped at the airport. His copy of the TES aroused their suspicions. He was carrying an essay on Marx, which really got them interested. The notes he had scribbled round the text were seen by the police, who attempted to decipher them.
