Improvement Idea: Persistent Statistics

I really like the daily statistics we have like '5th most subsidized nation in region' or 'most militarized' or 'highest crime rate'. They're interesting figures. It would be nice to have a tab on the left menu with all of the statistics of the day that we've had so far. I haven't kept track of how many there are but I wonder if it would be too much trouble to have them all daily. Then people could make their own graphs of how each statistic changes since that would probably be too much to have done automatically.

I believe there are 30-50 different statistical choices, could be a bit more by now. Each day's statistic is chosen randomly, then calculated at the nightly update.

Update already takes several hours to process all issues, regions, votes, and so on. Adding in more statistics on a daily basis would most likely be a significant extension of server update time. It's not simply sorting a database on a different column - it's quite a bit more complicated than that due to our game's structure.

So no, it's not a realistic possibility, at least not now.

I don't think he's advocating more statistics, only statistics that you can look at if you've already been calculated. For example, sort of the like the issues tracker at the bottom, only in a separate tab or something; you can view what you have been ranked as in the past.

Which would mean that that information would have to be stored on the server, storing that additional information for one nation might not need much space, but when you multiply that by the thousands on nations out there it quickly becomes a problem. It's basically the same problem that you get with the often suggested complete issue history.

Fair enough.

We don't really have those technical limitations any more. So this could be done.

I have to admit. I would like to see it too, Muscaroo. Though I would keep up with the random census reports as it's a bit of a community thing for many regions, the census search feature could be exclusively for the world page maybe?

I take that back. Some are so greatly honoured to be on the front page of these census reports on the world page ( I mean if you've played the game long enough to be in the top 10 or so, you deserve it!) and they shouldn't be cheated out of their pride, and bragging rights. If this system is created, a library of censuses would have to be made separate from the random daily ones...I'm not typically a traditionalist, but lets not go spoil a good thing.

actually, its not quite i meant. I didn't mean like having a tracker for daily statistics.

I meant that there ought to be a list of all 50 (if that's how many there are) daily statistics that is refreshed daily as opposed to a single one that is chosen at random and shown for a day. I understand, though, that this would be very time consuming to go through 50 times the calculations daily. (50 statistics for each of the 40,000ish nations instead of just 1 daily)

I guess the title "persistent statistics" was misleading.

I like this idea.

Nice idea. With the banishment of technical limitations I'd like to see the game's very own NSEconomy or similar.
