FYI

It's 10 AM Eastern Time US and NS1 is giving me a 503 server error.

I noticed that nation restoration was off the other day, the answer was given to us beforehand. (then again i also don't read the news)

Well! That didn't last long. We are on the move to a new host, and so
will suffer a little downtime over the next few days.

The "Nation Restoration" feature has been temporarily turned off, so
we can shift those two million archived nations across without bringing
down the entire game. Once we're moved, you will once again be able to
restore that old, deleted nation.

Thanks for your patience!

We know. Sorry for the inconvenience. Should be up now, though.

Sometimes being patient and haunting another website is a good thing. :)

Just remember that the site will be back up. Trying to access repeatedly may do more harm than good, especially when it will first return and everyone will try and access it at once. Let's try and avoid the Slashdot-effect if we can.

Ah. I missed that. I offer my apologies (and virtual chocolate) to the Mods about my having sent in a GHR on the subject...

No worries. ;) Glad we have players enough to notice!

Thanks Katganistan! Appears that the 503s are now resolved here. Some nations in US East and Midwest reported subsequent time outs on dilemmas - error message said server couldn't process GET.

That happened to me a couple times as well and now that appears to be resolved as well - at least from where I sit.

I really don't know what kind of patience it would take to be a mod. I might need medication to stay this side of sanity!

And thanks again.

Is there an estimated time that the nation restoration feature should be back up and running? Just wondering, Because I've got a friend or two that are mildly frustrated, partly because I blamed their inability to restore their nations on the use of unneeded spaces...I should of checked the NEWS!

Mods drink from the cup of the ancient wisdom, handed down from the mists of antiquity. It is known to many of us by the mystic and powerful name of "Booze".* :hail:

*it is also known to some of the more esoteric mods as "Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows and Cream".

My computer says www.nationstates.net can not be found.

Pity. We had fun for 5 years.

same. Sorry, we couldn't find www.nationstates.net

*edit* It's a miracle! I post to complain, and I can suddenly access the site 30 seconds later!

*edit again* 502 proxy error. I'll leave NS alone for a few more hours.

Firefox can't find the server at www.nationstates.net.

Do we have the new IP address for it available as it looks like it has not propagated to the DNS servers yet.

Ah, crap! Sorry, my bad. I forgot the 'www'.

If you try 'http://nationstates.net', it should work. Although only one page at a time. But the fix is in the DNS now; it may just take some time to propagate to your ISP.

Actually, we'll run the game without the "www" for a while. So if you're getting "Site Not Found" type errors, drop the www from the URL and you should be fine.

Put back our 'www' now, since the DNS entries should have fully propagated.

Thats interesting cause I was using the WWW on Friday at 11pm CST. Although I use Maxthon Browser so that might be something different between the browser I use and whatever anyone else uses.

The nature of DNS means people in different places were affected differently. It depended on what time your ISP picked up our DNS change.

There is a very small number of users whose ISPs still do not appear to have picked up the DNS change, and these people will probably get "Server not found" errors soon when our old server is taken down. (Currently it forwards to the new one.)
