NationStates Jolt Archive

A very odd occurrence.

I was just on another forum of which I am a member, and was reading an old thread about nationstates (ironically the one that lead to me joining here), where people were posting links to their nations. I clicked on some links, which worked fine, except one that, when I clicked on it, took me not to the nation in question, but to my nation.

Now I am filled with paranoia that someone else has access to my nation somehow (though I have no idea how that can be and know its probably irrational fear).

I have a feeling this is just one of the internet's odd, inexplicable quirks, but I thought I'd mention it.

Also, I updated my email address today, and it told me I could not log on to the forums until I'd verified it. However, I was and am able to access the forum without verifying anything. I'm not particularily upset by that, but in case it was a sign of some sort of problem I thought I'd mention it. I didn't want to post three separate threads in here in one night, so I threw this in as well.

If a nation has died or been DEATed and you click on its old link, it will take you to your own nation. Dunno why, but I've done it enough times to give you anecdotal verification.

On the second oddity I've no useful info, though I've had a similar experience with a revived nation.

That's the odd thing though. I clicked on other links that lead to a blank screen saying basically "this nation no longer exists." This was the one exception.

Hmmmm.

*this is the noise I make when I really haven't a clue what's going on.*

Guess we'd better wait for a techie mod, then.

It has to do with the way the link is structured. Default behavior for the current link structure for http ://www.nationstates.net/ThisNationNoLongerExists (http://www.nationstates.net/ThisNationNoLongerExists) is to take you to the "doesn't exist" page.

Default behavior for the old link structure, http ://www.nationstates.net//target=display_nation/ThisNationNoLongerExists (http://www.nationstates.net//target=display_nation/ThisNationNoLongerExists) is to treat the link as a malformed URL and redirect to the base page, which is your nation.

Ok thanks.
